Which Roger Waters album?

I’m a big fan of Roger Waters era Pink Floyd, but have been a but wary about his solo work. Which Roger Waters album is the best?

Lurid cover aside, The Pros and Cons of Hitch-hiking. Very much in Waters’ “primal whinge” mode, but as good record. Probably the best Eric Clapton record of the last 20 years too.

You probably already know this if you read my last thread.

AMUSED TO DEATH is hands down the best cd. It utilizes a genius mix of sound effects, singers from accross and all kinds of other cool stuff.

I’ll tell you the recipe for listening to this cd
1st) take phone off hook
2nd) turn down lights, light a candle (optional)
3rd) If anybody is in the room with you tell them to remain quiet throughout the duration of the cd.
4th) insert cd and play from begining to end. (enjoy)

Dang it I meant “singers from across the board

I have to highly highly highly recommend “Radio KAOS”!!! Even though it sounds completely like an album produced in the late 80’s, the songs are great and the production is perfect. Alot of people consider “Amused to Death” a better album, but for me, there is far to much filler on that album for me to recommend it. I feel that KAOS is a more developed and cohesive album!

I guess that’s what you get when you ask for a recommendation around here. A bunch of people with a lot of different opinions.

I’d vote for Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking as the best of the solo albums – it’s coherent, in its own strange way, and Clapton is an excellent replacement for David Gilmour in Waters’s arrangements. (His guitarists later on don’t have the same chops.) It is, I’ll admit, something of an “Oh whiny me” record, but that’s what many of us like about Pink Floyd to begin with. It also showcases his very best post-Floyd song, the single “The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking.”

I will point out that the early '80s were when I was a teenager and discovering Floyd/Waters, which may skew my experience. My favorite Floyd record is The Final Cut, which supposedly everybody else hates.

Kadio KAOS is a turgid mess. There are one or two decent songs on it – I’m fond of “Who Needs Information” – but the radio chatter is distracting, the story is silly, and the theme is puerile. It’s the only Floyd/Waters CD I actually sold – I didn’t want to have it around me any more.

I haven’t listened to Amused to Death much, so I won’t comment. It didn’t really make we want to keep listen to it over and over, though, unlike most Floyd.

Amused to Death, not hands down but decisively.
