Which TV husband or wife would you most want as your spouse?

Jim, of Jim and Pam fame.

Did anyone mention Laura Petrie?

Oh.

Here’s a gal no one else will cut into my dance card for. Zelda Gilroy. The stalker of Dobie Gillis on his show. Unquestionably the smartest teen and maybe the smartest female to be on any sitcom of her era and for several decades to come. Cute as a button, although not as lovely as the sugar bonbon Thalia Messenger, played by a 16-year-old Tuesday Weld. Tuesday, even at 16, got more action that the rest of the cast combined so it’s difficult to eliminate her from fantasy competition just for age. Zelda was omnicompetent, loyal, energetic, helpful, good with her hands (she built hot rod engines from scratch), spoke several languages, and harbored ambitions for her man. Plus, she was tiny, for those of us with petite fetishes. And she was a legal 18 at her first appearance. That makes her a much older woman, since I had just turned 9 the day before. Hey, maybe the smaller age difference gives me a chance with Tuesday. Sheila James is lesbian in real life, so a threeway might not be out of the question. Thalia and Zelda, yummmm.

Don’t bother nitpicking she wasn’t a wife. She was on Bring Me the Head of Dobie Gillis in 1988. Besides, living together didn’t bother me the 26 years I did it.

But. If you’re going to be that way about such a technicality, I’ll technicality right back at ya. Emma Peel. Mrs. Emma Peel.

How about Clair Huxtable? Gorgeous, stylish, has a great paying job, does a great job raising kids, and if I remember correctly never had a big fight with her spouse.
Or for a more obscure choice, how about Irene Lorenzo, the Bunkers’ neighbor on All In The Family? She was a wiz at plumbing and repairs, took no guff from anyone, was politically liberal but also devoutly religious (take note Dopers), and unabashedly loved her hubby. Plus in a world where people do everything to pretend they’re not old, she was a lovely sixtyish woman who had no problem looking like she was her age.

Joe Dubois - the husband on Medium.

Duke Crocker from Haven. What? We found out that he was married this season, and now he’s been conviently widow(er)ed. :stuck_out_tongue: Attractive, sarcastic yet helpful, and from nearby Maine, what’s not to love? Plus, he has a lot of, um, hobbies, so I could get writing done without him guilting me for not spending every waking minute with him. He’s perfect as long as I don’t have to provide too many alibis…

Jamie Buchman, from Mad About You. The character was irresistibly cute and neurotic. Just like me.

Gotta go with Jeannie Nelson of “I Dream of Jeannie”. Pretty, funny, eager to please and able to do so.

You are all crazy for missing the bestest of the best: Agent 99 from “Get Smart.” (they were married for the last season or two) Totally in love with her husband, even though he was a complete dork at every possible opportunity (I can relate). Also beautiful, talented, smart, and able to disarm a Kaos agent in a thousand ways without even using a weapon. And that wicked sexy deep husky voice! Yowza!!!

Well, that was quick. LP was the obvious first choice to pop into my head as well, for exactly the reasons you stated. 61 year old male speaking.

.

Rob Petrie . . . especially since Laura will be busy with her many other husbands.

Runner-up: Modern Family’s Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell).

Marshall on How I Met Your Mother (if I felt I was Lily  )

Phil Dunphy was the close second.

And now I’ve read the other entries. There’s a lot of us Laura Lovers (Lusters?) out here. Great minds think alike and all that, eh?
And although she’s qualified only by virtue of a technicality (married many years later in a reunion special), a strong “Me Too” for Zelda Gilroy. This 50’s kid adored her, and couldn’t believe what an idiot Dobie was not to appreciate her.
.

Sarah Bartowski (née Walker) from Chuck - she’s hot, sweet, strong, supportive, tough-as-nails, flexible, and is always dressing up in skimpy outfits for work. And she likes nerds!

My second choice would be her sister-in-law, Ellie Woodcomb (née Bartowski) - she’s gorgeous as well as intelligent, protective, loyal, and caring.

Another vote for Agent 99. Beautiful, intelligent, sexy, and with a gorgeous voice. Yowza indeed!

Caroline Ingalls
I saw “little house on the prairie” when I was a kid and did not pay attention to her, but when I recently saw some re-runs, I was impressed by how good looking she was (and it’s not easy looking good in the clothes she had to wear)

This is probably the verge of cheating, but…

Drew Saturday, from “The Secret Saturdays.” Voiced by Nicole Sullivan (i.e. Shego).

Cool character, great voice and attitude…and, apparently, gorgeous enough that the Google image search for her name with “strict” safesearch filtering barely reduces the percentage of cheesecakey fetish art it produces. Yikes.

The mother-in-law might be a problem for marrying “Susan Hilton” since she never understood the cutthroat and violent business that is greeting cards.

Any played by Robert Urich… sadly he’s dead :frowning: but hey, it’s not like ever had a chance anyway.

Back in 7th grade he helped me realize that, while I didn’t find the Official Hunkyboys attractive, I do like men.

Keep your Laura Petrie. Give me Donna Reed and I’ll spend the rest of my life in pure bliss. Lovely, graceful, amusing…

Ooh, I get to pick my TV husband?

Dr. Huxtable. Funny, rich, good dad, sweet. For all that, I could even learn to live with his awful taste in sweaters.

Bobby Ewing from Dallas. Patrick Duffy was played a rich, kind, HOT rancher/politician/ oil baron then. I’d have him invest in solar energy within five years of marrying him.

In the blue collar class, I’d have Roseannes husband or the dad from Little House on the Prairie.
