I really enjoy watching TV series on DVD. I enjoy it so much, in fact, that I find my viewing habits of regular TV has changed. Now I’m actually avoiding some shows just so that I can watch them on DVD. The two that I’m currently avoiding are Lost and 24.
So anyone else have a show that they’re not watching on TV just so that they can watch it on DVD?
I, too, am avoiding Lost, since I missed the first snivelpeen episodes and didn’t want to come in in the middle. I’ll catch it on DVD, since I’ve heard it’s good.
Same with Deadwood, although that’s a snap to avoid, since I cancelled HBO two months ago.
I’ve never seen Carnivale or Deadwood or the majority of Six Feet Under, but I will eventually rent them all on DVD. Of course, I don’t get HBO.
I’m also a bandwagon-jumper who only started watching Scrubs this season. I look forward to the upcoming DVD set of the first season, so I can catch up.
Other than that, I try to watch the few shows I like as they come on (Arrested Development, 24, The Shield, Justice League Unlimited).
Seasons 2 and 3 of 24 I watched on DVD, and barely finished season 3 before season 4 started.
Smallville is also DVD series, but the bastards who make the DVD’s don’t put out the last season beore the new one starts. I would prefer to watch it as it happens, but I can’t. So I have to buy season 3, watch it, then wait for season 4, watch that, and odds are, season 5 will already have started.
I watched seasons 1 and 2 of “24” on DVD. It was certainly more fun to watch the shows on DVD – you didn’t have to wait a week between episodes, and you didn’t have to wait through the commercials.
But once I got hooked on the show I found that I simply could not stand to wait until the DVDs for season 3 came out. I simply had to know what happened NOW. So I watched that season “live”. I’m watching season 4 now. No way could I wait for the DVDs.
ALIAS. I saw one episode while it was already in its second season, so I got the first on on DVD and watched the whole thing in 3 sittings. I’ve waited for the DVD of each season ever since. Great binge viewing!
Ditton on 24 (haven’t seen one episode yet, but I’m keeping an eye on the DVD sets on e-bay.)
Arrested Development
Sopranos (have S1-4 but am only up to S3)
The Office (not even sure if it’s avail in US)
