Which U.S. state is the most forgettable?

Area 51 is in Nevada. Unless there’s a double-super-secret one I don’t know about…

I’ve heard that ‘they’ moved whatever operation was at Area 51 to some other place in Utah. Still not NM, though.

Delaware, definitely. I’m good at geography and I can’t think of a single thing I know about Delaware besides where it is. I have no idea what its terrain is like, what its people are like, what its principle industries are, or anything. It’s like a black hole on the eastern seaboard. It’s actually worse than a black hole, because if it were a black hole that would make it memorable. It’s like the blind spot in your eye – it’s so completely invisible that you can’t even see the hole where it’s supposed to be.

The Goonies was filmed in Astoria, the same place as Kindergarten Cop. It is in Oregon. Astoria is even mentioned in the movie as the location. My son absolutely loved that movie, I must have seen it 25 times.

Damn! Totally forgot about that.

Whoops. You are right about me being the first… must’ve misread something.

As to why I picked Vermont - when I looked at a list of all 50 states, it was the only one that made me think for a moment to make sure I knew that it was a state.

I think you mean Ohiowidaho. Or perhaps Iowidahio.

To New Yorkers, at least (I’ve never heard anyone else mix 'em up), these three widely scattered states are in fact one giant interchangeable irrelevancy. I think they’re taught this in grade school.

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Don’t blab it outloud, we don’t need everyone to see how pretty we are. from May-late October. The rest of the year is gray.

I’ve driven through Deleware multiple times and it is the most blah and unremarkable place you could ever imagine.

Even Delaware’s claim to be the first state is pretty lame. Its not like they were the first state that was settled or even the first state to declare independence. All they did was ratify the constitution first. Why? Because all of the other states with things actually happening in them took time to debate the merits and demerits of ratifying the constitution.

I will give Deleware that it does manufacture a butload of chemicals thanks to the aformentioned Duponts. And didn’t they or the Vanderbilts or someone build a pretty marvelous mansion somewhere in Deleware? I also think that the movie *Fight Club * supposedly took place in Deleware.

We have Mount Washington, the windiest spot in the US. And, um…I got nuthin’. Oh, “Live Free or Die” inspired the latest Die Hard title.
Why doesn’t New Hampshire fall into the ocean?

Because Vermont sucks.

/juvenile joke I don’t agree with, don’t kick me out, Vermont!

I check in every time there is a thread like this :frowning:

see post #54

I’m sorry. But you know, maybe you should start a “Ask the Delaware-ian” thread! Tell us all about your lovely state! And then we wouldn’t be drawing such a blank.

All I know about Delaware is that I can go through five other states on my way to DC and I only start paying tolls at that bridge in Delaware. And I only stop paying tolls once I am out of Delaware.

Actually, it was because we can get off the stick and make a decision, whilst other states had to waffle about it.

A metric fuck-ton of fancy mansions. Can’t hardly turn around without trespassing on Dupont properties. Well, OK, most of em’ are museums now, but you get the idea.

Fight Club was set in Wilmington, Delaware.

There is only one toll on I-95 through Delaware. Maryland has two, unless you take the beltway west, though one is only a one-way toll.

Yeah, but I’m not convinced New Hampshire exists the rest of the time. I think it’s like Brigadoon, rising out of the mists for one month every four years and saddling us with presidential candidates that the rest of us love to hate.

Edit: Oops. Wrong thread.

Ok, as long as it has AuntiePam, I’ll take Iowa off my list.

Did you guys know that Delaware was named the number one state in the nation for e-government services for its citizens? It says so on their website!

Actually, it’s a pretty cool website. No, really. And I found out that Andrew Wyeth did a lot of paintings of places in Delaware. And Dover is its capitol.

Good God, I’m browsing the state of Delaware’s website on my lunch hour. I’ve done gone and lost my mind…

Short Circuit was also filmed there.

One reason for it to exist is cheap booze and smokes. When you live under the Stalinist liquor distribution system in PA, Delaware matters very much. On the off chance that Pennsylvania ever gets out of the 16th century, Delaware’s significance to the nation would definitely decline.

I cannot fathom anything that would make North Dakota memorable other than people with a grain fetish.

Speaking as a foreigner definitely Arkansas,I only remembered it existed because of a previous post in this thread.
