Another vote for Delaware, like others, I’d completely forgotten it until someone mentioned it.
Oklahoma? Every time someone says the name of that state, a little tiny chorus in my head sings “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOkla HOMA where the wind comes rushing down the plains”.
And during my brief stay in Texas during 2004, whenever I’d drive up to see my dad in Misery (MO). as soon as I saw the sign for the Oklahoma/Texas state line, I’d sing it too.
I say to all the Delawarians in this thread who are tired of Delaware being regarded as a forgettable state: do someting about it! Get out there and cause a ruckus! Start a riot! Paint yourselves green en masse. Have your governor pledge to develop his own nuclear stockpile! Do something…anything…to get your state into the news!
If you’re not willing to take some initiative, then don’t get bent out of shape when the rest of us think you’re kinda…blah.
If holding your retirement accounts and credit cards hostage isn’t enough, I don’t know what would be enough. Without us, you’re all homless and on the street in old age! And with us, you might be that anyway, before old age!
Not that this is necessarily scientific, but I just entered the names of all 50 states into google, one by one, to see how many hits there would be for each one.
The fewest hits, by a fairly large margin, was 59 million for South Dakota.
(The most hits was for New York with 500+ million, but that’s hardly surprising given that it’s also the name of the city. Second place was California with 300+ million.)
Which bridge? The Del Mem Br? Don’t blame us for that. Everyone knows that you have to pay to get out of New Jersey.
That and the toll on I-95 at Newark are the only highway tolls you would see passing through Delaware. Sure, there are some down in Slower Delaware, but you wouldn’t hit those on your way to DC.
Perspective is everything. I have a soft spot for RI since Mom went to Brown and I spent some wonderful times in Narragansett. And there’s the Awful Awful.
For those of us who are curious or don’t have the time to duplicate your efforts by Googling all 50 state names, do you still have your results on file? If you do please post them.
