Has anyone been diagnosed with symptoms of whiplash or neck/back injuries due to being hit by a car from the back? Did you get x-rays or MRI? How was the outcome months or years later?
X-rays don’t show soft tissue (muscle, ligament, disc) damage like an MRI does. If I were having pain after an accident, I would do my damnest to make sure I got an MRI rather than just X-rays.
I had a whiplash injury many years ago. I only had x-rays, but MRIs were not nearly so common then.
I wasn’t in an auto accident. As improbable as it sounds, my husband (then boyfriend) did it. He was being silly and playfully picked me up and tossed me onto the bed from chest height. My neck snapped back when I landed and, voila!
It didn’t hurt right away. My neck was a little stiff at first, then progressively stiffer. By the third day I could no longer turn my head to the side. As I understand it, it is very common for the symptoms to come on gradually, days later.
I wore a neck brace for a few weeks and was basically cured, though I continued to have flare-ups off and on for several years. I think it may have left a permanent weak spot, as I still find it uncomfortable to lean my head back into the sink at the salon and I can’t paint ceilings (or do anything that involves looking up and using my arms above my body) without getting stiff.
