Whirley pop, whirley pop, oh whirley whirley pop...

Sorry for the earworm. (It was supposed to be “Lollipop, Lollipop,” by the way.)

Woohoo! I’m a popcorn-lovin’ fool and at long last I’ve ordered me a brand new Whirley Pop popcorn maker. These are the gadgets that you use on the stovetop and stir using a wooden handle, and are said to be ideal for serving up yummy, authentic movie-style popcorn.

I’ve done the microwave thing, I’ve done the airpopped thing, and I’ve done the regular stovetop thing. Now I’m looking for the real thing. To this end, I ordered the package with “Real Movie Theater Popcorn,” which comes with premeasured packages of oil and flavored salt. The latter is, I believe, similar to Flavocol. And yeah, it’s full of cholesteriffic goodness, I know – but I won’t have it often, so for a semi-monthly treat I doubt the food police will book me for the crime.

It’s arriving on October 1, according to my receipt, and I’m champing at the bit to start chomping at the popcorn! So I thought I’d post for a survey of anyone who might own, or wish to own, the popper famed in story and song. (Well, not really ‘song’ … except for my thread title parody, which the company should so use if they ever make a commercial, don’t you think?) Anyone want to share your Whirley Pop opinions, if you have any?

Please post when you get it and make your first batch of popcorn. Is it worth the cash?

I wonder if it is Real Movie Theatre popcorn.

I’ve worked in theatres for a good portion of my life. Once, we almost ran out of corn so we went to a nearby grocery store and bought a quality brand. The kernals of the store bought were about half the size of the movie theatre stuff.

Personally I think it’s the cocoanut oil the theatres use that makes the real difference.

We have a Whirley Pop…we love it! But I don’t think it makes “movie theater” style popcorn. I think it makes the best popcorn, I have ever had. I don’t like movie theater popcorn or microwave popcorn. There’s just something about them, maybe the texture, maybe the “butter flavor” something.

But I truly love the popcorn we get from the Whirley Pop!

You gonna put Bacon Salt on it?
Oh, and darn you for the earworm. It’s one of my worst, and now I have your version.
