Now! - Thieving, grabby white women. Can’t take your eyes off 'em for a second. If you do your entire cultural closet is raided.
Fine, and in fairness, women of color should not wear bras. Upper middle class white girl invention.
I’m looking forward to the day when College/Uni students have moved on to the next thing to be idiots about.
Can we go back to marching for nuclear disarmament instead? Now there’s a cause that’s kinda topical…
If I’d seen a message like that back in my college days, and if I’d worn earrings anyway, I’d go right out and buy some hoops. Maybe I’d even wear them if I hadn’t worn ear jewelry before.
PC has gone too far.
This just in: College students are idiots, film at 11.
When the worst thing you can come up with to complain about is what other people are wearing in their ears, it’s time to shut your mouth and be grateful that you don’t have any real problems.
Otherwise people might get the impression that you are just a rich, entitled, spoiled brat, and kind of stoopid too.
In this world where everyone seems to live in everyone else’s pocket, it seems absurd to think that one group owns a style of anything to the point of saying that other people shouldn’t wear it. This includes hair, clothing, jewelry, and anything else.
If the point is to make while folks remember that people of color are still discriminated against, then talk about that directly, because that is something that makes sense to get angry about. It doesn’t make sense to get angry about earrings. Not to me, anyway.
On the other hand, someone who can make sense of this point of view is welcome to step in and set me straight if they feel like it.
They don’t have a problem with white people “exploiting the culture” by appropriating their music? That’s been going on since the 19th century.
Brown, non-asian, women need to give up pizza, french fries, driving, flying, etc. stuff that’s not invented by their culture.
And remember, ¡ix-nay! on the white frat boi parties with tequilas and those little sombreros.
In the '60’s, black were invited into the mainstream. They brought hoops along, and now they are here, for everybody, just like everything else in the mainsteam, that they once celebrated being a part of.
Okay, I’m going to wear the biggest pair of hoop earrings I can find tomorrow.
If you are not from Xingjiang, you have no business wearing trousers.
Small groups demanding silly things that literally everyone realizes is stupid? That’s supposed to be PC going too far?
They’re college students. They’re pushing boundaries as adults. It’s what has always happened and will continue to happen. They will have stupid ideas that will get shot down. But that’s how we discover new ideas that aren’t as bad.
I will admit they need strong teachers for some sort of History of Social Justice class. And some rhetoric classes would be good.
This is an example of why I think the meme that “PC has gone too far” is mostly a conservative boogeyman. A handful of teenagers over a thousand miles away from me said a dumb thing. I’m not about to freak out over that. The only reason you heard about this in the first place is because some hack journalist thought it would make good clickbait.
I await Peggy Lipton’s response.
White women have been wearing hoops since the Bronze Age, if not the Neolithic.
Forgot the cite.
And on page 95:
I’d be happy too see everyone take OFF their big ol’ tacky hoops. Not really a good look on anyone.
