White House likley altered video of Jim Acosta

WHITE HOUSE MUST RESTORE JIM ACOSTA PRESS PASS, JUDGE SAYS SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS CLAIM ‘LIKELY UNTRUE’

Hmm… likely untrue.

Temporarily, at least.

I admit that I still don’t fully understand the legal basis for arguing that a specific reporter should have access to White House press briefings but I’m still pleased that journalists have some limited protections.

He won’t call on him but I betcha Trump still makes the effort to insult him. The rest of the press should let Acosta sit/stand front and center, directly in front of Trump or Sanders, just to make a point.

Mmm. Seats are generally assigned based upon seniority and how big a readership/viewership a reporters outlet represents.

Some of that got blown up during the GWB administration. Used to be the dean of the Press Corps got to ask the first question but Helen Thomas started getting passed then.

This is what happens when you pee on someone’s leg and then tell them it’s raining.

The judge didn’t watch the video?

Honestly, this is how I saw it, too. That said, it’s a far, far cry from anything resembling “assault.” The WH was looking for any reason under the sun to pull Acosta’s pass because he’s a terrible, grandstanding reporter. He doesn’t actually report so much as just throw barbs. To be clear, I don’t think Trump is a good president, but Acosta’s silliness is not the best way to call him out.

“Putting your hand on a woman” means putting your hand on a woman.

The woman in question didn’t do anything wrong.

I don’t think he should go to jail. I think the White House is justified in revoking his press pass, for being a rude asshole who tries to monopolize the press conference for his own self-aggrandizement, and for putting his hand on the intern who was trying to stop him from monopolizing the press conference.

Look, I get it - the SDMB would like nothing better than to turn every press conference into an event where reporters take turns being rude assholes to Trump. The problem was, Acosta didn’t want to take turns.

Regards,
Shodan

Except, again, as noted above several times (and you keep ignoring it because you got caught stating something that was so easily disproven) that’s not why the White House said they revoked his press pass. The revoked his press pass for an assault that didn’t happen.

Yeah, “likely untrue,” is just a weird choice of words in this situation from a judge.

It’s also annoying that the linked Newsweek article quotes only those two words. I’d at least like to see the whole sentence and maybe more to get a better understanding of the context.

Still, without that context, my read is that this was the Judge’s polite way of calling it a lie, but I’m less than 100% sure of that interpretation.

Which Acosta clearly didn’t do. Glad we’re all in agreement here.

Yeah… decorum.

Describe the Trump White House in one word? Decorum.

If he was booted because other members of the press were making that complaint, I feel it would be perfectly acceptable to boot him for that reason.

The other members of the press did not express that concern and that’s not the reason he was booted.
In his style I think his first question back should be “Mr Trump how do you feel about the court telling you, you are a loser in regards to your attempt to ban me?”

Yes, but you see Acosta didn’t put…

Ah, forget it.

At what point did you realize your argument wasn’t any good? Was it after you watched the video?

Ah. I didn’t realize you were denying the existence of idiomatic speech.

Yes, Jim Acosta put his hand on a woman here, and almost certainly in thousands of previous incidents, going back to his infancy. He probably put his hand on his mother’s cheek when he was only hours old, and he’s likely put his hands on his wife when he hugs her.

But that’s not the context in which the expression is used here. When someone reaches across you to grab something from you, and you reflexively pull your arms close to your body, and a hand incidentally brushes against the other person’s arm (which may or may not have happened, the video isn’t clear enough to show whether it’s his lower hand or his wrist), that’s totally innocuous and unremarkable. The phrase “put his hand on a woman” idiomatically implies assault, which obviously didn’t happen, as I’m sure you agree.

Still going with that, huh? Weird.

By the way, the woman who approached Acosta and forcefully tried to take the mic out of his hands is not an intern, but the Deputy Press Secretary:

What you’re clearly failing to acknowledge here, LHoD, is that Acosta gave the intern “press cooties”.

Still going with that, huh? Weird.

Your link doesn’t work for me.
