Do those teeth whitening kits that you can purchase at Walmart really work?

Look at the concentration of the active ingredient. If it’s at least 10% carbamide peroxide, it’s the same strength as the stuff your dentist gives you. Which works for most stains, but not all.

Even the ones used by your dentist don’t do much if you drink coffee, he told me after I paid $400 for the procedure. Cute.
Tea is even worse.
I think the quality difference between DDS and Walmart is not in the bleaching gunk they use, but in the contraption used to put it in proximity to your teeth.
The cheaper kits have a plain, smooth mouthguard that you don’t make any adjustments to. Better kits have something more like an athlete’s mouthpiece that you put in hot water and then bite on to mold it to your teeth.
The dentist makes a cast of your teeth and builds the “tray”, as they call it, on the cast. It fits tightly, assuring constant and close contact of the bleaching gel to the tooth surfaces, which is the most important factor for the bleaching to be successful.
The making of this tray is what costs the big bucks. The good thing about it is that if your teeth start to dim again in later years, the tray can be reused with a fresh supply of bleaching gel.

I have one of those clear retainers that are molded by my teeth. I bought some Dr. Georges Dental White from Wal-Mart and it took about 2 weeks to be able to see a difference. It is WONDERFUL!!! I just use it about once a week now and I still get comments about how white my teeth are. I posted this topic to see if it works on anyone else. Some other members of my family have tried it but it didn’t seem to work as well. I’m not sure why it works on me an not other people.

Myron: There’s the difference in the kind of tray used, but some drugstores sell only weak concentrations of carbamide peroxide…

What does coffee or tea have to do with anything? If they stained in such a way you could not clean your teeth then they would have went out of style a long time back.
yeah… i drink tea and soda pop…
I ve not tried using straight household bleach with a q tip to see if it works…done properly & wiped off, I suppose it would make a test. Shucks, bleach whitens just about anything. Don’t drink it [even though you do all the time in drinking water].
