White Trash Beggar Scam #2: The Free Speaker Scam

I have no idea why White Trash Beggar Scams is not under General Questions, but hey, then again I was rejected for a moderator position on this site by Cecil. I digress.

Here’s another scam that happened to me in Quakertown, PA about ten years ago. I’m getting in my car in a store parking lot. This dude pulls up in a van. He asks me if I want a free pair of Pioneer speakers. Immediately my senses go PERK PERK PERK, and I decline. He acts all incredulous and drives off. This was in 1988.

THEN . . .in 1991 . . **THE SAME GUY TRIES TO PULL THE SAME SCAM ON ME AGAIN!!!</b.

Ive actually heard what the scam is before, but Dopers , please refresh my memory.

That was SO funny! Especially the first time I heard it, on a Chris Rock special a few years back.

Lookie here, OJ - the next time you’re stoned and you need an activity, why don’t you find a copy of Highlights for Children and learn a lesson or two from Goofus and Gallant, mmmkay? You see, Gallant tries to make friends with the people around him, whereas Goofus tries to hurt said people. You’ve failed at both. What kind of loser does that make YOU? Oh, right. A pathetic one.

So, once you’ve mastered Highlights, why don’t you come back and see if you can play nice around us grownups? You might be pleasantly surprised at our reactions.

About the same time a guy in a van pulled up to me and asked if I wanted to buy some (really expensive) speakers for $20. I declined because I assumed they were stolen.

But if there’s a “free speaker” scam, what is it?

Just so you guys know, I’ve e-mailed the moderators about these two idiots- (OJSimpson and SpaceJackson) they should be banned soon. Please don’t encourage them any more by posting responses to them in the threads. Thanks.

Someone offered to sell me some expensive speakers for 1/2 price too. I didn’t even have that much at the time. I’m guessing that the speakers were really crappy speakers and that most people cann’t tell the difference and/or they were stolen.
