Whitney Houston Dies

Sorry, didn’t see you’d edited it out.

This death pisses me off. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve been rankled about a celebrity’s death, and this is the only time I’ve been bothered by a pop star dying. I was at a bar getting hammered, as usual, and this news took my buzz and shot it in a dark alley. I goddamn loved Whitney Houston, and her death is a fucking shame. What a waste of a beautiful woman and a beautiful talent.

I just watched her singing the Star Spangled Banner- it had been a while since I saw that. Damn.

Well until the Titanic rerelease. Then it’s Celine Dion 24/7.

So sad. Again, this story should be a message to everybody- drugs KILL!
How many times is this story repeated?
RIP, Whitney.

[Hijack]I won’t link because it’s a not high-traffic site, but a former co-worker of mine posted about this on their blog. Amazing the difference a one letter omission can make, namely the difference in

Whitney Dies in Beverly Hills

and

Whitey Dies in Beverly Hills

A fine line between ‘huge news’ and ‘Huey Newton’ I suppose.

And either way, Al Sharpton has a statement prepared.[/Hijack]

I was in junior high when that video came out and I thought Whitney was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. I had a big-time crush on her for a while there.

Here last top ten hit was in 1999 "“y Love Is Your Love” which went to #4, not including the re-issue of “the Star Spangled Banner” which went to #6 after the 9-11 attacks.

But still counting that, that is ten years since she was active on the scene with charting hits.

She did have a great voice. I remember in the 80s she was accused of sounding too white so she cut the album “I’m You’re Baby Tonight.” Her song, “How Will I Know,” was actually written for the Pointer Sisters. If you think about it, it sounds exactly like the kind of song they’d do.

+1

I’m not saying she wouldn’t have had a drug issue if he hadn’t been around, but the fact that 1) his substance abuse issues were already well known when they married, and 2) he was already more than halfway down into the abyss because of them no doubt, in my mind, influenced her much more than she let on.

Man, she had a beautiful smile. I liked IWALY until it was played to death. I can understand not liking it but calling it screeching? Nah. One of the greatest voices ever in pop music. Something about the purity of the sound when she hit a note and held it. Otherwordly. Fuck cocaine.

My teenage self loved (ok lusted after) Whitney in the 80s back when MTV showed videos and my friends and I would stay up late watching Friday Night Videos. The early 90s saw Super Bowl 25 and “All the man that I need” which takes me back to the gf in the dorm. I’m sorry I haven’t thought of you much in the 20 or so years since that time Whitney, please rest in peace.

Thank you, and thanks also to What Exit? Of course, now all I feel is :smack::o

Totally.

The other time (before) that I got “pissed as a loving aunt” was when River Phoenix died. I could have bit his head off.

I was just finishing secondary school at the time, and was a bit of a goth to boot, but I felt the same as you.

Damnit, Kevin Costner. You had ONE job to do and…
(Shamelessly stolen from a friend’s FB wall)

Soeaking of movies, Waiting to Exhale 2 was a go and she was already cast in the remake of Sparkle. Sparkle will probably still get made but I don’t know about WTE 2.

Lots of sistahs will be disappointed if they don’t.

My bad. Whitney’s scenes in Sparkle are already in the can.

When her version came out, I HATED “I Will Always Love You” with a WHITE HOT PASSION! I was 14, and chronically in love with an unattainable girl.

My favourite Whitney moment, which I think I first saw on Eurotrash, was the interview with Gainsborough.

Man, my girlfriend is really upset. And her cousin has changed his FB profile picture to a black ribbon and posted a long eulogy about how Whitney was his life and he’ll never smile again and shit. She’s pissed off with me for being so cynical about the media reaction. Worse, the next time I see her she’s going to make me watch The Bodyguard. Think I need to tone it down a notch…
