Hmm…we’re not friends on FB, Idle. You may have friended some other sexy broad from Ohio that you’re thinking is me. I hope she’s a real hoot!
I’m friends on FB with Athena, **Asimovian **and Lancia. I spent a day once with **needscoffee **and used her bathroom even but we’re not day-to-day pals.
Here’s a fun fact: I am pals with ex-poster and weird guy PSXer. We chat all the time and I send him a birthday pizza every year. Alas, my influence was not enough to save him from whatever of his own shenanigans got him banned. But we talk sports and food and lawn maintenance.
I am swamped at work, but needed to pop in and say “This!” for this post. Yeah, who knew a couple of random emails would lead to a wonderful correspondence over so long.
I have exchanged off board/PM communications with many Dopers, pretty much all wonderful. But, yeah, this has been a fun set of connections to have made.
I was going to mention meeting you two, as well. I’m still waiting for WordMan to come back so I/we can return the favor of buying us all rounds.
As for personally meeting people, I’ve met very few Dopers otherwise. My wife joined the Dope but mostly lurks, and she joined it because of me, so I’m not counting that. I’ve met Eva Luna, WhyNot, HazelNutCoffee, and I can’t remember who else once or twice IRL at some small Chicago Dope get togethers. (Never been to any of the Dopefests of yesteryear that seemed so full of drama and intrigue.) I also coincidentally ended up working in the next cubicle over from an old school Doper who doesn’t post here anymore, Gundy, when I was a temp way back in 2004.
The pleasure is always mine, Cal. Hope you and the family are well.
I see the charming lorene now and then (but not often enough), and there are a couple lapsed dopers I still keep in touch with, including one of my best friends.
I was in Toronto a few years back and was going to meet Le Ministre de l’au-delà at a Blue Jays game, but my plans changed at the last minute and we never met up. I don’t know any Dopers IRL, except for my wife.
Cinnamon Imp of course plus Wonder Bob and Swamp Bear. There are others but I don’t actually know their Doper Names. All have twisted senses of humour.
I’ve met a few Dopers IRL, but the one who probably knows me best – mostly from Facebook, though it started with her 2009/2010 revival of Teemings – is one who I haven’t met (yet): twickster. She’s on my list for whenever I get back to Philly.
I’ve would have to say first and foremost Elendil’s Heir. I consider him a real world friend I happen to make through the dope. I’ve only met him in person once but we do correspond a lot off the board. Sadly I am a bad letter writer.
Hal Briston; who I’ve met several times in the past though mostly at Dopefests.
D_Odds; **NAF1138 **who I have met and through the D&D game I was running.
**CatInASuit **through the D&D game and by working together on Mellophant.
OneCentStamp, Glee, Malacandra, & **appleciders **who were all part of the D&D game early. **Mal **is off the board now but I also corresponded with him on off board stuff.
Qadgop the Mercotan rounds out the list for me I guess, he is the Master of Middle Earth lore on the Dope and very entertaining and informative in general.
I haven’t been very active in board stuff though, so many of these are dated. I met a lot of Dopers through Dopefests but the above are the listed I regularly interacted with more than just a bit. There are many Dopers I really like but only really know them through the board or a few Dope related meetings. There is an additional group I got to know better through Mellophant but I’ll leave them off.
I wish I’d known last fall where you live. I was passing through and would’ve loved to meet for coffee.
I’m a relative newbie so I only have one Doper friend on FB. I’ve met a LOT of my internet friends from other places but no Dopers. However, I did recognize an ex-boyfriend of mine from what he was saying in his posts. He was shocked I knew it was him. We’d dated in the early nineties. It was nice to catch up.
Oooooh, yes! While I was only in that campaign at the end, it was a tremendous amount of fun, and great to get to know all of the players beyond the environs of the SDMB.
