I’m a bit surprised that Anna Quindlen hasn’t yet been mentioned. I think she is often able to cut through the rhetoric and get at the core of an issue. Her column in the latest Newsweek about saying the pledge was excellent.

The worst professional columnist I’ve ever read was Dalton Camp, but he’s dead now so I can’t pick on him anymore.
