In the decade before I graduated, my high school had Trenton Jackson, Olympian and NFL player; Philip Schultz, winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry; Gene Cornish of the Young Rascals; and Eliot Fintushel, prize winning science fiction writer/mask & mine artist/theramin player.
They’re not the most famous bunch, but you can’t touch that for diversity.
A handful of professional athletes, apparently, but only two I’ve ever heard of - Joey Hamilton was a year behind me and my husband, and DeAngelo Tyson (but I know him mainly because two of my classmates were his foster parents, plus I read the local newspaper and keep up with his charitable foundation fundraising.) Not an alum yet, but one of my son’s classmates (same school) is a published author, and one of the sweetest girls I’ve met in a while - Maya Van Wagenen.
