Who are your 5 favorite female sitcom characters of all time?

(One Foot in the Grave)

Believe it or not I only saw it in the last 2 or 3 years. I don’t think I’d seen any of the final series where they brought it back. Just wasn’t as good. But the ending, well that was an unexpected way to go! I was watching it thinking… I don’t believe it!

NOTE FROM THE OP:

My plan is to create a poll that includes every character that received more than one nomination. Because the option limit in polls is 50, my goal is to reach that number of double submissions.

Because we’re still a little short, let’s open it up a bit.

So, everyone gets 2 more selections. I will post the poll when we reach 50.

mmm

I’ll throw in two more. I don’t think either has been mentioned yet, but maybe, just maybe, my mentions here will prompt someone else.

Connie Tucker (Meemaw, Young Sheldon)
Janet Kim (Kim’s Convenience)

My 2 extras:

Lovey Howell (since she lost the toss up to Hot Lips Houlihan)
Janet Wood (Three’s Company)

Janet (The Good Place)
And I’ll secong Carolyn Knapp-Shappey (Cabin Pressure)

Pat MacDougall - Everybody Loves Raymond
Lilith Sternin - Cheers

Lavern & Shirley from whatever that show was called.

Veronica Palmer (Portia de Rossi) - Better Off Ted
Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth) - Cheers and Frasier
Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) - The Good Place
April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) - Parks and Recreation
Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) - The Golden Girls

Runner up only because I expect no one else will nominate her anyway - Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris) - Frasier’s agent in a recurring role

Also, when I was preparing my list, I was surprised by the number of times when a show I loved had multiple great candidates. The cast of The Golden Girls and one other person would be a perfectly creditable pick. The Good Place could fill out a whole card including recurring characters. It seems like when a show wrote one great woman character, they almost inevitably had several more.

Jen Barber (The I.T Crowd)
Mrs Doyle (Father Ted)
Barbara Good
Daphne Moon
Ros Doyle

I was wondering if I could change one of mine. I forgot about my favorite.

Lilith from Cheers/Frasier.

My other one won’t make the list. Hetty Woodstone from Ghosts.

Hailey Dunphy from Modern Family
Sweet Dee Reynolds from It’s Always Sunny

I’ll add them to the previous five.

Two more, yay!!!

Edina Monsoon (AbFab)

Virginia Chance (Raising Hope)

I only have one more to add:

Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow, Friends)

June Cleaver

Bailey Quarters

Gidget

Emma Peel

Darla Hood (not sure if she counts)

I guess I’m showing my age here

Morticia Addams
Barbara Royle (The Royle Family)

j

I wouldn’t remotely call The Avengers a sitcom. It wasn’t a straight spy drama by the Diana Rigg era, but not a comedy, either.

Without reading the entire thread:

Agent 99 (Get Smart)

Morticia Addams (The Addams Family)

Eleanor Shellstrop (The Good Place)

Lily Aldrin (How I Met Your Mother)

Jennifer Marlowe (WKRP In Cincinnati)

I see I have two more:

Rachel Green (Friends)

Janet (The Good Place)

Was Janet female?

Ok my additional 2 are

Mrs Doyle (Father Ted)

Janet (The Good Place)

Both are very well acted
