I’m originally from Bedford, Pennsylvania and there is a local artist named Kevin Kutz that I feel captures the essence of my hometown with such beauty. I own several of his prints, and looking at them takes me home again.
This one is one of my favorites. The subject is a local man who was for all intents and purposes homeless. He would pick up cigarette butts and take the leftover tobacco and place it in a ziplock bag, and roll his own cigarettes from that leftover tobacco. This painting really shows how time has taken its toll on Old Bill. Bill has died in recent years, but his legend lives on. Take notice of the ever present cigarette hanging from his mouth.
