Who are your least favourite Simpson character?

I disagree with the entire list, especially adding Ralph Wiggum twice. “My cat’s breath smells like cat food” is brilliant humor.

Personally I don’t like Marge. I understand she is necessary, but I don’t like her.

Yeah, Marge works (sometimes) as a foil for Bart and Homer but on her own shes pretty intolerable. At least shes not as bad as Peggy Hill.

The characters that are stands-ins for a general stereotype are the ones I dont like. Snake is every criminal, prisoner, and general bad guy in the show. Dr. Nick is everything from a private practice MD to an ER doc to a surgeon. Professor Frink is a jack-of-all-trades scientist as well as professor.

The one single character I don’t like is Mrs. Krabapple. She’s a one-trick pony, and her only trick is to be bitter. It really was never funny.

Edit: I quit watching the Simpsons around season 12 or 13, and I just read that Mrs. K was “retired” back in 2013 or so – after marrying Ned?! Wow. I’m way behind.

She was retired due to the death of voice actress Marcia Wallace.

I’ve never been much of a Principal Skinner fan. He’s just too pathetic.

That said, I think the character is well-realized and written, I just don’t see a lot of redeeming qualities to him.

I think in general, looking for too much continuity or for anything to make too much long-term sense is kind of silly when you’re talking about The Simpsons. I mean, Bart Simpson has been 10 since the Tracey Ullmann Show days- he’d be like 44 by now. By that lens, having a single polymath professor modeled after Julius Kelp (Jerry Lewis’ Nutty Professor) isn’t particularly weird. Nor is having Dr. Nick be one of two doctors in town, and doing everything medical-related that isn’t in Dr. Hibbert’s family practice.

Disco Stu was just supposed to be a throwaway gag. In his first appearance, Homer was trying to sell a jacket with “Disco Stu” written in rhinestones on the back at the neighborhood yard sale (he was trying to write “Disco Stud”, but he ran out of studs). Disco Stu turns down the opportunity to buy it, because Disco Stu doesn’t advertise.

But apparently Disco Stu proved to be so popular with fans, they made him a recurring character.

I don’t remember being asked…

How can you dislike Ralph? Twice?

I think the character who has zero positive qualities and only negative is Helen Lovejoy.

I like her just for her catchphrase “Won’t somebody please think of the children?”.

Luann Van Houten doesn’t add much to any particular episode. Anyone can wear a jacuzzi suit and make it funny.

Carefully packing all of Kirk VH’s stuff in a cardboard box, labelling the box, and then lighting it on fire was pretty funny, though. And she can draw ‘dignity’

I don’t watch the show anymore, but enjoyed most of the characters listed above, even if they were bizarre or not specifically funny. It was one of the strengths of the show, and sometimes they correlated to real people, and occasionally were quite clever.

I don’t actively dislike any of them. Sure, could live without them, such as Crazy Cat Lady.

No, not Hans Moleman! He’s barely present when he shows up – he’s just a quick gag. I love his myopic shlimazel self!

How about good ol’ Gil? Nobody can be THAT MUCH of a loser.

Do you mean the Rich Texan? He’s responsible for one of my favorite lines in the series. When Homer incompetently deals him a big win at the casino:

“Homer, I’d like you to have my lucky hat! I wore it the day Kennedy was shot, and it’s always brought me good luck!”

To which Homer replies, “Thank you Senator!”

I love (Frank) Grimes, and I think he was created to point out the unfairness of how mediocre people like Homer (‘regular guys’ who go along with the majority) are liked and rewarded more than people who work harder than the majority, and try to improve themselves.

Yea, I caught that after the edit window closed. oops.

Most often, though mediocre people don’t get to go into space.

That was the joke

Disco Stu doesn’t advertise.

He was well-covered in the other thread.

I also liked what she said to churchgoers filing out after services: “Thank you for choosing our church”.
