who called me?

I received a weird call earlier.
My son answered, and they asked for RoseMymaidenname.
He said wrong number.

When I tried *69, it gave me a weird number that started with 678 and when I tried to press 1 to call it, it said that couldn’t be done.
Any help?

678 is an Atlanta area code. I suppose the caller could have a call rejection service.

Weren’t me darlin’.

Not that I wouldn’t you know.

If you have the complete number, you could try a reverse lookup on The Wormhole.

Scroll down to “InfoSpace”.

I have an aunt who lives in Marietta, GA, and she would be likely not to recall my married name.
I hope all is okay, as she is 88.

I believe Marietta would most likely be a 770 area code, unless it was a cell phone.

Metro Atlanta is 404, the outer edges are 770, BUT 678 is a relatively new (seven or so years if I recall correctly) area code that also handles the sprawl areas as the 770 numbers were running out.

Had a similar thing happen once and it turned out to be a call placed with a calling card.

Atlanta now uses “overlay” area codes. Anywhere in the metro area could be area code 404, 678, or 770. For instance - my office phone and home phone are 770, our satellite office and my business cell phone are 678, my parents cell phones are 404. All are physically located within 10 miles of each other in the eastern suburbs. A Marietta number (northern suburbs) could well be 678.

I’ll second that. The number showed up on my cellphone but the attempt to return the call gave me the pre-paid phone card spiel.

[badgeekjoke] Do you have trouble reaching your parents by cell? [/badgeekjoke]

404 is the HTTP error code one generally receives when one attempts to access a web page that isn’t there.
