Who can help me with Kindle Create?

I published a book a decade ago. I want to make a Kindle Book out of it before I die. After I die I will be too busy.

I downloaded Kindle Create.

I m now playing with it. It seems largely intuitive. At the moment, I have stubbed my toe on creating a Table of Contents.

I have loaded a few chapters and designated each chapter title. (Each looks quite official centered and enlarged.) Then I smash Chapter Detection. Not a one of my chapters seems to be detected.

Further, no ToC magically appears in the document I am working on.

But, when I go to Preview the main pane looks just fine, and all my chapters appear in the ToC pane. So somehow my ToC is created, but again it does not appear in the document itself, in the main pane.

I am sure I will run into other issues as I play with this, but can someone help me with this first step? Are any of our Dopers an expert with this process?

what text program are you using? notepad? word? calibre? google? indesign? both word and indesign can utilize plug-ins for kindle. have you checked youtube videos? there’s a handful of “kindle-create” videos specifically for toc (table of contents). you may wish to view the youtube link below.

I began by using Word. I bought a book on how to format using Word. But I could not get the ToC to work using that method.

Then I got Kindle Create and got the strange situation I described. When I previewed the file, no ToC appeared. When I transferred the file to my actual Kindle no ToC appeared.

Just by the way, I contacted a fellow who wrote a small book on how to format for the Kindle. He wants $1,000/hour to help. It would not take too many jobs at the rate to make a paycheck.
