Who can I complain to about this telemarketer?

I’ve been receiving phonecalls about every other day for the past three weeks from this (insert expletive here). They give you a slurred name, then ask you to call a number and reference a code number, which they give you. At the end, they mention a website (www.wolposslaw.com), which I visited in hopes that I could send them a scathing email.

No such luck. If you click on “Contact”, it lists a bunch of links to sites about contacts. There is no actual contact information that I could find. This is becoming harassment and I’d like it to stop. Who would I call to complain about this, if anyone?

The FTC is probably the organization, especially if you are on the Do Not Call list. Even if they can somehow claim a “prior relationship”, enough complaints and the FTC can at least investigate. Check also if Alaska has a similar department or if the AG will handle this kind of stuff. I’m not sure what the website is, but it looks to me like an available domain that they just grabbed onto, not one the “company” actually owns. You often get that kind of page when you navigate to a website where the domain name existed at one point with a provider but the owner did not reup. I’d show an example but I don’t know of any off the top of my head, but it’s obvious when you see it.

in looking at that site, it references collections. (Like Asterion said, it doesn’t look like an actual site) Perhaps it’s a collection company calling, it may not even be you they’re trying to reach and they just have the wrong #. Especially since they’re leaving a code # for you, that sounds like a collections file #. We’ve been through that before as well, call after call where they’re trying to reach someone that owes them money that we’ve NEVER heard of. Just an FYI, if it is a collections call a call every other day doesn’t constitute harrasment under FDCPA. I would call them and see if that’s what it is and if so, just let them know they have the wrong phone #.

Good luck!

A Google search shows that the company has been in legal trouble for cyber squatting. I don’t think that it is any kind of collection agency. The URL wolposslaw.com is for sale, I sent an email query about the site. Everything on the site looks like the typical crap when a web site is for sale.

In looking a little more at it, I believe you’re right. I should have looked more into it before responding. mea culpa.
