Even if Sanger was pro-negative-eugenics (how’s that for a weird hyphenation?), her actions didn’t really lead to any major policies or practices that disenfranchised the feeble-minded or whomever she didn’t like. She’s known for starting the birth control movement because that actually happened. If Sanger’s eugenics position was somehow criteria to make it on your list of Worst Figures in American History, the rest of your list would probably be filled with run of the mill skinheads.

My guess is that she was included because of the whole Planned Parenthood = Abortion link that Guinastasia mentioned.

I think there’s a lot of truth to this. Partly maligning Sanger because of her association with Planned Parenthood. But more broadly using the unpleasant aspects of her to malign the left by association. The argument essentially is “Sanger was a leftist. And Sanger was a bigot. Therefore the left supports bigotry.”

Carter also deserves blame for creating the Department of Energy and the Department of Education. Both have been a net drain on the country since they were created, and both have utterly failed in their stated mission.

Carter just signed the thing.

Are you going to blame the large number of Republican senators who felt strongly enough about it to cosponsor the damned thing as well? Hell, even Strom Thurmond, Howard Baker and Ted Stevens were sponsors.

Interesting that John Wilkes Booth made the list but Lee Harvey Oswald did not. I guess killing a Democrat president isn’t so bad.

Nah. They just all voted for the the guy who “set up” Oswald as a patsy.
