Who IS this guy’s audience? Cuz I can’t imagine too many republicans, especially white southern ones responding with anything other than a “WTF”?

Isn’t the birth rate for that demographic significantly higher than almost any other group in the US? And don’t most poor southern blacks vote democrat?

Sounds like it is either a misunderstanding on Cain’s part, or a deliberate lie in order to whip up support. Either way it makes him look like even more of a doofus.

“Herman Cain is wrong on the facts and clearly out of the mainstream in his attack on Planned Parenthood,” spokeswoman Veronica Byrd said in a statement.

“Out” racist Republicans are not going to vote for him anyway. The rest of the Republican Party doesn’t think they are racist, whether they actually are or not. Many will applaud this talking point because doing so will make them feel non-racist AND it doesn’t cost them anything.

But it just begs the question (among the thinking public, that is). If we have more unplanned pregnancies among poor women, we will have more high-risk births and more children needing special services. Not to mention more WIC and social welfare programs. How does this square with a small, no-frills government? Will these families be ignored?

These people don’t know what “trade-off” means. You can’t be “pro-life” and then talk about poor people dragging down society. You just can’t.

The effects of such operations upon a woman, serious as they may be, are nothing as compared to the injury done her general health by drugs taken to produce the same result. Even more drastic may be the effect upon the unborn child, for many women fill their systems with poisonous drugs during the first weeks of their pregnancy, only to decide at last, when drugs have failed, as they usually do, to bring the child to birth.
There are no statistics, of course, by which we may compute the amount of suffering to mother and child from the use of such drugs, but we know that the total of physical weakness and disease must be astounding. We know that the woman’s own system feels the strain of these drugs and that the embryo is usually poisoned by them. The child is likely to be rickety, have heart trouble, kidney disorder, or to be generally weak in its powers of resistance. If it does not die before it reaches its first year, it is probable that it will have to struggle against some of these weaknesses until its adolescent period.
It needs no assertion of mine to call attention to the grim fact that the laws prohibiting the imparting of information concerning the preventing of conception are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths each year in this country and an untold amount of sickness and sorrow. The suffering and the death of these women is squarely upon the heads of the lawmakers and the puritanical, masculine-minded person who insist upon retaining the abominable legal restrictions.
Try as they will they cannot escape the truth, nor hide it under the cloak of stupid hypocrisy. If the laws against imparting knowledge of scientific birth control were repealed, nearly all of the 1,000,000 or 2,000,000 women who undergo abortions in the United States each year would escape the agony of the surgeon’s instruments and the long trail of disease, suffering and death which so often follows.
“He who would combat abortion,” says Dr. Hirsch, “and at the same time combat contraceptive measures may be likened to the person who would fight contagious diseases and forbid disinfection. For contraceptive measures are important weapons in the fight against abortion.

Right, but then he shoots himself in the foot hitching his carriage to the whole “endangered black babies” campaign. Not addressing the rightness or wrongness of this, I wager that most conservatives no matter what race, do NOT want MORE poor out-of-wedlock babies adding to the tax burden, crime rate and prisons in the US.

I think most will see that and go “WTF, this guy wants MORE of 'em? Screw that”.

I think that its an excellent idea to make all abortion illegal.

That way we can bring back the good old days of “Back street abortions”, or even the "Do it yourself"abortions with all that entails.

No, but Black conservatives do.

No; thanks to the long standing, well known racism of the Republican party as a rule black conservatives vote Democrat, vote third party, or they don’t vote. Most of them aren’t foolish enough to vote their enemies into office. This is why blacks despite as a group leaning more conservative than average heavily support the Democrats. The same goes for conservative members of racial/ethnic minorities in general; regardless of their conservatism, the deep bigotry of the Republicans drives them into the arms of the Democrats in self defense.

It might also help with accuracy if it leaves out “illegitimate,” “poor,” “single,” and “inner-city.” 'Cos, you know, the idiot doesn’t actually mention those in the quotes attributed to him.

Disapprove of him all you want. I totally agree with you on that. But don’t add in superfluous bullshit just to make him look and sound worse. He sounds bad enough without the accessories, and those just give ammunition to the bad guys (that would be the people who support him).
