Who do I contact to remove 2 infractions off of my driving record?

I live in Oregon. I’ve always heard that if you get an infraction, like a speeding ticket, it will go off of your record after five years.

For my current job I received a copy of my background check. The company got their information from LexisNexis Screening Solutions.

The information returned shows two infractions from 1997. Way longer than the 5 years they should be staying on my record. So who do I contact? The DMV? My insurance agent? The local court house?

Here is Oregon’s DMV Recods web page. You would need to contact them about getting old data expunged, should the rules allow.

Getting the data removed from Lexis’s system is gonna be a while different issue, and you will need to contact them. Just because the state nay allow it, doesn’t mean that a private company does.

I found another page about expunging police records in Oregon, which explicitly says, “No convictions for Traffic offenses may be set aside or expunged.”

The five years you speak about is usually for the DMV point system. Insurance companies go back more like seven years. The court can go back over your entire driving record. You are not going to remove them.

They don’t just pitch the ticket in the shredder (or electronic equivalent) after 5 years, they just cease to include it when someone requests your official driving record (unless you personally request a complete one). Also, I believe in some states, there are rules against an insurance company or employer using older traffic tickets against you if they find out about them some other way, such as the Lexis database.

When I was younger I had a lead foot. I had a few speeding tickets but only these two remain. OK, one isn’t a speeding ticket, but it’s listed as an infraction, just like my speeding ticket is. If the other infractions aren’t showing up, then it seems like I should be able to get rid of these too.

Before I got this current job there were two or three jobs I was qualified for, and I really wanted. But they involved driving, and I’m wondering if these two items kept me from getting the jobs. And when I go for another job, I don’t want these two items screwing over my chances.

Anyway, I’ll check with the DMV and see what they say. Thank you.
