Who do you boycott?

::::::::bump:::::::::

Count me in on the Boycott Fox TV [sub]at least one night [/sub] when Temptation Island is on. Several living together couples and a bunch of, for the lack of a better description, good looking prostitutes, parade and flaunt around on TV.

This is regular TV.

This crap should be on Cable.
[sub]However, I will not give up *That 70’s Show or Titus, both of which I love [/sub]

For those who want to be in on Shirley Ujest’s ** Boycott Temptation Island ** Here’s how to jump on the bandwagon:

I’ve already emailed my local fox tv affiliates the bad news that I am boycotting Temptation Island and their advertisers.

If it hadn’t been for Carnation Good Start, my son would not be as well off as he is right now. Between him not being able to handle other formulas and me not being able to breastfeed, it darn well may have saved his life.

Sorry, but this is a sore spot.

I have to boycott Dominoes Pizza because my wife once said they sent money to anti-abortionists.

I don’t know if it’s still the case, since ends of boycotts don’t make the news.

Domino’s Pizza use to be owned by Tom Monaghan, who also owned the Detroit Tigers. The man is a very devout Catholic
(Which probably answers "Did they donate to anti abortion causes?)and when he sold both businesses (late 80’s?) I remember reading that a huge chunk of money was going to to set up a mission for the poor people in Podunk Mexico. I was like, “Hey, what about the poor people here in this country!”

I am also boycotting whomever makes those retarded " Good Pizza, Bad Andy" commericals. It’s a matter of principal.

I boycott:

Starbucks
Gap/Old Navy
Nike
Soulless bookstore chains (this is easy because I work in an independent bookstore)

There are a number of other institutions I don’t patronize because I am not interested in their products, like McDonalds or Taco Bell, but those aren’t particularly political, even though I know they contribute to the destruction of the world’s rain forests.

I boycott any company that spams me. No matter how much I want the product, no matter how relevent it is to my life, I refuse to buy from people who steal from me - and that’s what spammers do. Of course, in the 2 years I’ve been on the net, I’ve only ever had two spams relevent to my life - and I reported both of them along with the porn/weight-loss/viagra/etc spams.
I also boycott the Australian clothing chain “Chain Reaction”, because when I tried to return a shirt that didn’t fit (it was a gift), they refused to take it back. They claimed I’d worn it because it had a makeup smudge on it. Number one, it didn’t fit. Number two, I don’t wear makeup ever. Number three, I never wore the shirt. Number four, how dare they accuse me of lying! The mark was on the shirt when my mother bought it, but she’d figured it would wash out. The manager refused to accept that, saying that Chain Reaction would never sell a shirt that was “so filthy” (a makeup smudge on the collar does not constitute filthy in my book). Considering they DID sell it in that condition, her remark was a blatant lie.
Considering I’m such an opinionated person, I boycott surprisingly few companies

Where I live, Perkins is so institutionalized, that it’s often the only game in town. The Perkins near my house was open 24 hours until a few months ago, and it’s open most holidays except Christmas Day. The waitstaff knows who I am, and they go out of their way to give excellent service. The one exception was dealt with on the spot, and in a fair and appropriate manner.

I’ve been to a few local restaurants, and the service sucked, the food sucked, and I left feeling that I should’ve stuck with Perkins. However, there are some local restaurants that have earned my repeat business because the food is good and the waitstaff is wonderful.

I don’t boycott businesses because many of them supply me with things I want and/or need. For example, I can’t boycott Nike. I have foot and joint problems that force me to wear running shoes whenever possible, and a good pair of Nikes works much better to alleviate the pain than anything else I can do. The two large pet supply stores in my area, PetSmart and Petco, are both targeted for various animal-abuse complaints, yet the alternative is to feed my cats food that may not be suited to them, because my choices at the local grocery store may not be as diverse. Do I take a possibly inaccurate report, based on one store’s practices, and deny the two cats who trust me to take care of them the food and supplies they deserve? Sorry, but my cats take priority.

Washington Mutual: I seem to recall ads depicting Californians as swindlers who came up north with stagecoaches empty and went back home with them full… and I’m originally from California. Oh, and guess where they have branches now? I bet they didn’t show those ads in California.

Intel and NVIDIA: Various anti-competitive practices and cover-ups. I’d include Microsoft, but they’re pretty unavoidable.

Nintendo: Price-fixing, censorship, and deceptive advertising.

Juanita, no one is going to begrudge you using a product that your son needs. If my son didn’t deal well with other formulas, I would have gladly tried Good Start. We’re not bitching about the fact that they sell formula at all, or condemning moms who need it. It’s just that Nestle hawks formnula in third world countries, where it can be a ticket to DEATH for babies.

I can think a company is scum but not hold it against anyone (even myself) if I need their product for health. Does that make sense? And I know plenty of happy, healthy babies who use Good Start–I even regularly sent my Good Start coupons to a very needy mom I knew who used it. That doesn’t change the fact that Nestle wantonly ignores world-wide outcries for them to change their marketing and distribution of formula.

I used to work midnight shift at a gas station, and I stopped letting people use the bathroom after someone wrote thier name on the wall in fecal matter…and I had to clean it up. I don’t fault any gas station for this policy anymore.

The Seattle Mariners. They colluded with our County Executive to scalp taxpayers for a half-billion dollar stadium then proceeded to blow the playoffs just five days later. Lost the loyalty of three superstars in three seasons, and choke every season.

The Seattle Seahawks. Similar reason; they allowed a wealthy guy to literally purchase an election that gave them big bucks for a new stadium. Plus they hired Dennis Erickson.

Toshiba. I have friends who sail in American submarines hunted effectively by Chinese subs because Toshiba sold them propeller-machining technology.

In general, Germany. Still pissed off over 1914 and 1939.

I love pizza, I love cigarettes, I love fast cars and cheap gasoline. But I only indulge in them occasionally and I don’t boycott them to make them behave better.
