Who Do You Hate Less- Notre Dame or Alabama?

Could not have said it better.

I have no particular connection, positive or negative, to either team. In such situations, I generally default to geography, and I like the Midwest a lot better than I like the South. So, I guess I’m rooting for Notre Dame.

Couldn’t have put it better myself (except that I would remove Michigan from the above list of plagues, and add those cheating sleazebags at Ohio State and the brain-dead rednecks of Florida).

I don’t have any hate for the Tide (that’s reserved for Auburn and Florida). Of course, I’m bitterly disappointed that my Dawgs came four yards and a spike short of going to the big dance, but 'Bama played hard and well, and I honestly think they outplayed Georgia.

I get the rest of the country’s SEC fatigue, but hey - seven championships in eight years. The math speaks for itself. There is simply no other conference as strong and deep. And Oregon doesn’t deserve a shot at the championship because of those hideous uniforms. Likewise Boise State and their ridiculous blue field.

My dad went to ND (and they are still sending alumni magazines even though he and my mom are dead), so I guess I have to root for them, but I don’t have a straong feeling about any college football team except maybe the Badgers (Grandfather, Mom, 3 sisters, a niece and a nephew, et all went to UW Madison)

Brian

anybody remember that time when ND declined to play in a bowl game b/c it wasn’t up to their ‘‘standards’’?

how douchey!

I hate ND,
let’s play a majority of our games at home
let’s schedule only easy road games
let’s live off a tradition of beating army in the 40’s
let’s remain independent so we can keep making up easy schedule

You mean right after they had a truly shitty ending to the season, fired their coach and were more interested in finding a new coach and starting over, than dragging themselves to yet another bowl game against a much better opponent, all at a net loss to the school’s budget? Yeah - real douchey, making an actually financially responsible decision with an eye to the future.

You mean like nearly every other major college football program? Alabama played 7 games at home versus ND’s 6 (neither Navy nor Miami were home games) - which is half, by the way.

Really? They had Michigan State (a pre-season #13 team, #10 when they played), Oklahoma and USC on the road this year (along with less-than-impressive Boston College). In fact, the’ve had USC on the road every other year since…forever. Same with Michigan since the 80s.

Actually, the game they’ve “been living off of” (which I have absolutely no idea what you mean by that), they tied Army. What, no mention of the four championships or four Heismans we’ve also been living off since then? Yeah, they haven’t produced since 1988 - it really sucks. What are fans supposed to do, just give up? Not show up to the games? Not celebrate the successes?

If Notre Dame wanted an easy schedule, they’d have joined the Big East back when they had all their other sports join the Big East. Here’s a fun game - find out the last time Notre Dame played a non-D1 (FBS, if you will) team. Here’s the media guide - the historical schedules start on page 141.

Hate ND all you like - but could you at least try to make your hatred the least bit rational, please?

college teams fire their coaches all the time and still play in their bowl games – happens every single year

8 home games
4 road games
USC sucks this year, they didn’t evne have Barkley, Miami sucks this year, They barely beat BC, 3 OT games, barely beat Pitt at home, barely beat Purdue

“Same with Michigan since the 80s.” – um, no, they played MICH at home this year, that game flips as well

here’s their 2011 schedule:

“In fact, the’ve had USC on the road every other year since”

I’m calling BS: Note: USC at ND again in 2011!!!

12 games
5 road
now, I didn’t go to notrah darn but that’d make, lemme see: 7 home, again , a majority

shall I go on? lets’ b/c 2010 is even better

12 games
3 road
9, that’s NINE games at home, what a joke

why join the Big East or any conference when you can keep doling out that b.s. schedule.

one more time for 2009!!!

12 games
4 road
8, that’s EIGHT HOME Games! (including USC, ahem)

gimme a j, gimme an o, gimme a k, gimme an e, what does that spell? J - O - K - E

“Hate ND all you like - but could you at least try to make your hatred the least bit rational, please?”

Rational?

grab a napkin homey, you just got served.

Wow. I hate Notre Dame, but all you’ve done is proven you can’t count.

I count 6 home games in 2011 for Notre Dame. Are you counting the Purdue game as a home game??? Because I can’t see any other way you’re geting 7. (ETA: Oh, I see what you did. You didn’t count the Maryland game, because it was at the Redskins Field in Landover, MD, and not at Byrd Stadium.)

In 2010, I see 7, not 9, home games, unless you have some bizarre way of counting the games in New Jersey and New York as “home” games.

Same with 2009, unless Texas is “home.”

I could sort of see your rationale for calling the game in Ireland and Chicago this year “home” games. But the others? What are you talking about?

I hate Alabama less. With the exception of the Ty Willingham years – because I covered him back at Stanford – I’ve always found Notre Dame really annoying.

Boy, you sure did! I especially like how you didn’t let things like not understanding what the words “every other year” meant not once, but twice! And while I think it’s adorable that you think Notre Dame plays its home games in Soldier Field, Cowboys Stadium, Ireland, Yankees Stadium, the Meadowlands, FedEx Field and the Alamodome, I’m afraid it just makes you wrong.

I’d ask what team you root for, but I wouldn’t want to embarrass anybody on the boards by associating them with you.

I despise the SEC, but especially despise Alabama because their coach, Nick Satan, deserted Michigan State years ago. He’s about due to deny rumors that he’s leaving and then sign with somebody else. He’s a whore, only slightly worse than Les Miles, who annually pimps himself out to listen to other schools’ offers in order to extort more money out of LSU. Screw the entire SEC and the red states for which they stand.

As a Kentucky fan, I have to back the fellow SEC program. Notre Dame is far easier to hate, unearned adulation and their refusal to join a conference is worse than having an asshole for a head coach. Say what you will about the SEC, they have had a phenomenal run of success in football (and basketball, go 'Cats! 2012 champs!) over the last decade. Notre Dame has not, yet receives extensive press coverage anyway.

You let politics guide your college football rooting interests? To each their own, I suppose, but that seems bizarre to me.

It’s a factor. I root for the Big Ten first and foremost. Second factor is rooting against the SEC in all non-conference games. Third factor is rooting for Michigan’s MAC entries, then I will root for teams from the northern states, then I will root against southern states, then the last factor is I will root for blue states and against red states.

Well, that’s systematic! So for Notre Dame-Alabama, you apply the second criterion, “against the SEC in all non-conference games.” So even if it was Notre Dame-Florida, knowing that Indiana was a red state and Florida blue, you’d root Notre Dame?

Yeah…because receiving tattoos for free is horrible cheating. OSU was dumb about the whole tattoo thing, but trying to play it off as some horrible cheating sleazy thing is just dumb. Considering it is very likely that a good portion of SEC football teams (and all football teams) have their big recruits on an under the table payroll, it’s pretty dumb to call out OSU for getting some free tattoos. Let’s not pretend that it’s this awful cheating scheme designed to lure the best players.

The coverup was worse than the acknowledged crime. Tressell bullshit excuses for covering up the sale of memorabilia and the players tie to a drug dealer surely enhanced the punishment OSU got. And the laughable OSU Compliance Department didn’t help either. And then there is the whole Bobby DiGeronimo thing. Trying to pretend that it was just a couple of free tattoos that got OSU in trouble is a gross misstatement.

Did I really just see a Georgia fan referring to UF fans as brain-dead rednecks?

As a Texas A&M alumnus, I want Alabama to win. Then, since we beat Alabama this year, we can count it as another National Championship for the Aggies. :smack:

Ugh. I clicked the wrong button. I’m rooting for the meteor.

Probably. Georgia has more of a wine and cheese reputation than a redneck reputation.

…and everybody knows Gators wear jean shorts.
