I know the feeling. When USC won 34 straight (2003-2005), Cal fans got a lot of vicarious glory (and untold media mentions) as The Last Team to Beat USC.
Yes, there was a time when the SEC did not dominate college football. Hard to believe, but true.
For most of my early life, I hated Notre Dame. They’ve been down so long, I actually started feeling sorry for them in recent years. Now I despise Alabama.
There’s no option for “my team isn’t in the SEC so screw Alabama!”
Anyway, as a third-generation Gator alumnus I say screw Alabama. I was rooting for Georgia in the SEC championship game, though I might retroactively un-root for them since Slow Moving Vehicle is being such a jerk.
I’m for Alabama. I don’t care much for the SEC, but they play good football every year. There’s going to be a power from the SEC for every year in the foreseeable future. If it’s Alabama, LSU, Florida, Auburn, whatever, it makes little difference to me. Well, I like seeing Florida down since they recruit for the same guys as Miami. Plus, I like that for most of the past 20 years, ND has been an afterthought, and I’d rather it stay that way. If ND wins, I like the idea of Jerry Jones throwing $10m/year or so at Brian Kelly just to see what happens.
He’s not really. He’s just showing his age which I would put as under 35. That’s the Dawg generation that hates Florida as our biggest rival. It’s natural for that generation to take any opportunity to razz a Florida fan.
Older’n that you really hate Auburn. Older’n that you really hate Georgia Tech. It’s purely generational.
I hate the fact that we have to wait an entire month for the bowl games. It’s stupid for there to be such a long break between the end of the regular season and the bowl games.
Obviously - I’m not saying that they shouldn’t have gotten the punishment they got. Tressel was an idiot with regards to the whole thing and they got what they deserved…but I was responding to the spin that OSU was a bunch of ‘cheating sleazebags’, as if their transgression was directly responsible for bringing higher talent into the program.
As a northern Indiana resident, I guess I’m obligated to say “GO IRISH!” In all honesty though, I’ve never really been interested in or paid much attention to college football( or any football, for that matter).
