Who Do You Support In the Southern Rebellion

Who would you have supported in the Southern Rebellion of 1861-65?

Lincoln.

If y’all ain’t started no shit, wouldn’t ter been no shit. spit

The poll should be:

Who would you have supported in the American Civil War?
The United States of America
The Confederate States of America
Other/I don’t know

That being said! The North, of course!

The North of course. The Confederacy was a nation that existed solely to promulgate evil. As bad or worse than Nazi Germany (at least Germany itself wasn’t founded for the sole purpose of preserving and promoting evil; the Confederacy was).

The U.S. Duh.

The “Southern Rebellion”, Curtis? If you are really a 13 year old (and I’m not entirely convinced you are), then you must spend most of your time at school recovering from wedgies or extricating yourself from lockers if you go around acting like a 13 year old Ivy League Professor, surely?

In response to the poll, I’m going to say that my official position would have been to have no official position, and then quietly make a fortune selling supplies and materiel to the Confederacy.

At least it wasn’t “The War of Northern Aggression”.

In the first place, Curtis, it’s the goddamn CIVIL WAR.

In the second place, since the South were fighting to keep the “right” to enslave persons of my skin coloration, I would obviously have supported the North.

I’m sure some idiot or another will point out that there were black soldiers on the South’s side. I will counter that said soldiers generally did so for the promise of freedom, and that doing so made them collaborators in an evil system.

I am sure some other idiot will point out that there were black slave owners as well. That’s true. A tiny, tiny fraction of blacks owned slaves. And you know what? They were fucking traitors to all that is good and decent no less than white people who owned slaves were, and deserve nothing but contempt and being spit on.

Well, if I were alive during the “War of Northern Aggression” I would have been in Arkansas where my parents, grand parents and great grandparents were from. So I probably would have been a Reb.

The OP’s question is posed as if the average person in that day would have been informed enough to make a good decision without regard to the pressures of your family and local community. It just wasn’t that way then. If the boys in your town went off to fight, you went with them. It wasn’t like joining an army of strangers from all over, the fighting units were comprised of soldiers from towns and counties and many were not even aware of the larger politics of the war.

Your uncles, brothers, the relatives of the girl you hoped to marry, they were going and you were going too. If a battle went badly there might not be any men at all returning to your small town.

Objective reporting on current events that might give you the information you needed to make an informed decision were not available. And it didn’t really matter, becouse you were going with the other local guys.

“Southern Rebellion”?
Gee, Curtis, nothing loaded about this poll, is there?

Closing thread.
