Who do you wish you had seen that's no longer alive?

Prince
David Bowie
The Doors
Led Zeppelin
The Who with Keith & John
Mitch Hedberg
AC/DC with Bon Scott
Mother Love Bone with Andrew Wood
George Carlin

Thats a really good one. Also Bill Hicks (he wasn’t very funny, but he was before his time).

Greg Giraldo too.

And Tupac

Henny Youngman. When I was in grad school, one of my classmates was from California and had worked in LA as a companion for visiting celebrities, showing them around town. One of her charges was Henny Youngman, and she told me about driving him from place to place (like magic shops) to visit old friends: “He was so boring, always cracking these corny jokes!”

I wanted to strangle her! All I could say was “*You *spent an evening with *Henny *Youngman?!?”

After Henny, I’d list Rodney Dangerfield, George Carlin, and Steve Allen.

My list is long, but I’ll only post the number one: George Carlin.
mmm

(on second thought, I gotta get the Beatles in there too)

The Pythons. (Complete lineup, with Chapman.)

Mozart.

Satchmo. (Saw Dizzy once. Inspiring. But his comment on Satchmo has always stayed with me: “No him, no me.”)

Any of the ancient Macrimmons playing pibroch.

Stevie Ray Vaughan- that show at Alpine Valley was north of Chicago, and I said “I’ll see him when he comes to Chicago.”
Also Rory Gallagher. I got turned on to Rory towards the end of his career/life, and although I had a few chances, I never made it.
I would have loved to have seen Randy Rhoads play live, but I was 13 when he died.

Just remembered one other: Bach! he was a virtuoso on the organ, as well as being a top-notch composer.

He was once travelling and stopped in a little town where he wasn’t known. He went to the church. The organist wasn’t around, so he asked someone if he could play a bit, just to practise.

After he had been playing for a while, the church organist came back and listened. At a break in the performance, the organist went up to him and said: “Based on your playing, you are either God or Johann Bach.”

SRV played two nights at Alpine Valley. I was at the first show. Sort of stunned when I heard the news later.

The one I would have liked to have seen is Townes Van Zandt.

Bob Marley in Madison, WI in the 80’s. I thought I’d be able to see him later but he died shortly after.

I got Graham’s autograph, and Terry’s. Been hunting the rest since.

Pining for the Fjords?

Oh, Dude! You should make a thread about your review of this show.

A few years ago I went to my first Star Trek convention. It was the 50th Anniversary so almost all the casts of all the shows were there (the most notably absent were Takei, Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner). Seeing everyone else made me really sad I would never have had a chance to see Leonard Nimoy live.

Johnny Cash
The Beatles (if the audience wasn’t full of screaming girls)
Led Zeppelin
The Doors
