Who Else is Sick

The weather has take a cold turn. I am sick. Further I have the strangest symptoms, a clogged nose and a sore throat. Nothing in the in the lungs, no aches, only a bit of a fever.

A sore throat? I have not had one of those in years.

Anyone else out there sick?

I am. In fact, I can say, in a suitable martyred tone, that I’ve been sick all year! What started off as a head cold has turned into a sinus infection. If what you have goes on too long, please do check with a doctor. Apparently, left untreated, sinus infections can last for a couple of months.

Sigh! Pass the antibiotics and the Nyquil. At least the rest of the year should be better.

Exact same symptoms here. Sinus discharge is kinda pale green.

been ongoing almost a week. yuck.:frowning:

I was sick for about three days last week, worst of it was yesterday.

Today, though, I’m perfectly fine. I think the hot toddies I had after dinner last night did the trick.

Thirding this. I know various websites are renowned for spreading viruses, but who knew the Dope was one of them

Yep, strep throat! I went back to work Monday after a 6 week medical leave, woke up Wednesday with a sore throat. Got the diagnosis yesterday.

I may be, but I’m still holding out hope.

I have a nasty case of pinkeye. It’s making me crazy. The itching and running and light sensitivity and general ickiness are bad enough, but the worst thing is having to wear my glasses. I’m so used to contacts that the glasses screw up my depth perception and give me headaches.

Also, because I so rarely wear glasses, the only ones I have are sparkly black-rimmed with rhinestones on the corners. They’re lovely and whimsical when I’m otherwise cute, but as a frame for my nasty red runny eyes… well, the effect is kind of like a Louboutin on a clubfoot.

So far nothing this year. But then I’m now off from work and so I only go to the grocery store, so there is lesser chance for catching something.

That’s just how my cold started, on Jan. 1. Haven’t had a cold in years. The sore throat went away in a day, leaving just the head cold, runny nose, and cough.

Get some nice soft tissues for when your nose unclogs, and a decongestant (like Robitussin) for when symptoms move to your chest. If you can get some humidity in your house, that might help too. There’s nothing worse than dry air when you have a cold.

I’ve had that - bit of sore throat in the morning, random sinus drainage throughout the day; no fever, clear lungs. Seems like it gets better, then worse, then better … I’m on my 5th day of it, today.

Here’s hoping we all feel better soon.

I’ve been sick for over a month now, after enduring somewhat less serious chronic symptoms for about four years. It finally got bad enough I went to the ER and spent the night while they ran some tests. I was supposed to be on vacation and take a road trip home, but instead I spent the time visiting doctor’s offices. The doctors still don’t know what’s wrong with me. I have a bunch of invasive and inconvenient follow-up tests to do over the next month. They gave me some medicine, which definitely is helping with some of the symptoms. I went out to dinner last night and then attempted to make some plans today to hang out with friends and get some exercise.

Fail. Woke up at 1am with intense abdominal pain and couldn’t sleep for hours. I almost could not stand up long enough to run and get my Vicodin.

Plans canceled. I go back to work on Tuesday and I’m not convinced I’ll be at peak performance.

I just don’t know what’s going on or whether or not they’ll find anything. I’m pretty powerfully frustrated with this.

I’ve had a cold since about two days before New Year’s Eve. It really flared up last weekend & since then has been gradually fading. Still some congestion hanging in my throat/lungs, but not awfully bad.

I’ve had a bit of a cold/sinus problem since just after the New Year, and yesterday it went south into my lungs…a bit of a cough, a sore throat, still have the upper resp problems, too. Joy. I’ve been on vacation for the last week. Now that I have to go back to work Monday, I get really sick. Love it.

I am. I left work around lunch time on Tuesday. Sore throat, dizziness, and the beginnings of some head congestion and achiness.

It just got worse from there and fast. Fever, chills, more achiness, heavy lungs, sinus pressure. A real mess.

I was out of work Wed. and Thurs. and went in yesterday for about 2 hours, then came back home to curl up on the couch with my 3rd bottle of NyQuil.

Most of the achiness is gone today, but I still feel pretty miserable.

How about a staph infection? I had to have my leg sliced open last week and was given antibiotics I had to take at 6 hour intervals with a stupid requirement to sit upright for 30 minutes afterward (so 5 - 5 1/2 hours of sleep at night). Those antibiotics did not work either, so we replaced them with Cipro (which makes my head not work so well). Yeah - its been a great week.

All damn year. Sneezing, streaming nose, aches, chills, cough that has turned horribly productive, the whole nine yards.

In fact, I was lying on my back with the laptop propped on my belly reading the thread about kids pooping their pants, when I got tickled. Laughing turned into coughing, which brought up a huge load of ick into the back of my throat. I got strangled really badly and couldn’t breathe. For a few seconds there, I honestly thought I was going to die because of WhyNot’s kid.

What is this “Hot Toddy?” Recipe, please.

I had a cold, which flared my asthma, and resulted in coughing so much I strained my rib cartilage. And I am still coughing

A hot toddy is a hot drink with a lot of booze in it, typically whiskey. More traditional recipes usually just use hot water, honey, lemon, and a shot. I’m partial to chamomile tea with honey, lemon or lime, and tequila, myself. Or some gingerbread syrup and bourbon. The heat of the drink helps unstop your head, the honey soothes your throat, and the booze helps reduce the coughing and also makes you not really care so much if it doesn’t.
