Who else is totally STOKED for Star Wars?

I admit it: I’m stoked. I’m not going to be camping out at the theater or anything like that, but I’ll try to make it the first weekend.

Yes, I’m looking forward to it. My all-time, hands-down favorite is Ep IV “A New Hope.” “Empire Strikes Back” was pretty damned good, “Return of the Jedi” less so (those damned Ewoks!). “Phantom Menace” was ruined by Jar Jar Binks and that incredibly annoying, chirpy young Anakin, but “Attack of the Clones” was quite a bit better. The previews for the newest movie look 'way cool, so I’m hoping the trend continues and this is better than its two predecessors.

Our 8-year-old son is a huge SW fan and mature for his age. Although I’ve warned him of the dark tone and scary elements that might be in this movie, he’s eager to go. Doubt that we’ll catch it on opening night, or even the first weekend, but we’re gonna see it, without a doubt.

::sigh::

One of my co-workers has midnight tickets. It’s going to be hard not to pester her all day next Thursday. (I have to wait until 8pm.)

I’m falling prey to the haters of the world. Their bad vibes are throwing off my spiritual balance and I’m pretty indifferent to it right now. Which is a shame: I liked the other two.

I too am not as excited for EpIII as I was for EpsI and II. Not sure why, I waited in line at Grauman’s and Westwood Fox for I and II, but for this one, I’m planning on seeing it sometime in the month. Why the lowered expectation? Probably because Once Burned, Twice Shy. Or maybe, Hurt me Once Shame on You, Hurt me Twice Shame on Me. Even though I know this one’ll be better I’m still going in with lowered expectations.

stoked with midnight tickets in hand! my boss laughed at me when I told him why I needed Wed 18th off…but whatever!!

Okay, wait. I’m totally confused, and this is killing me. It’ll be even worse if I go on the wrong night.

The movie is released on May 19, which is Thursday, right? The tickets I have say May 18, 12:01 a.m. I’m assuming they mean May 19, and they just don’t realize that midnight makes it a new day. Accordingly, I asked for Thursday morning off.

Did I totally screw up? Or are the people at Moviefone deliberately messing with me?

The movie definitely opens Thursday May 19th at 12:01 AM.

Whoever printed your tix must have just been thinking “Wednesday night at midnight.”

Personally, I don’t enjoy movies as much in a crowded theater. I don’t like an empty theater, but when I see a movie, I like having empty chairs beside me and in front of me, and I like bringing in a 16 or 22 oz beer, too.

I was so disappointed by the second Matrix movie that I never even bothered to see the third one.

I’m following the same course, for the same reason, with Episode III.

Thank you, Trunk, I thought I was going crazy. And I had this image of me at the closed multiplex on the wrong night. :smack:

I’ve never thought to bring a beer to a movie … but I have brought some of my special brownies.

Just to be safe, I’d go both nights Draelin.

What she said. I’ll see it on opening weekend if the opportunity arises, but I’m not going to bust my chops to do so.

(Unlike, say, a new Pixar film, which I’ll go see come Heck or high water. )

Ah, screw it, I’ll just sleep in my car in the parking lot.

Me me me!!! Hell, everyone knows that I love SW. I even liked the prequels-hell, I thought Jar Jar was absolutely adorable.

And I’m looking forward to hot, sweaty, angsty Obi-Wan making Anakin his bitch. Oooh yeah.

Believe it or not, I’m not particularly stoked, despite the fact that I’m making a Darth Vader costume and plan to wear it Thursday for the opening (not yet decided whether I’ll go for the midnight; I have class at 10:00 AM the next day). I just feel that I ought, once in my life, at least, to go to the opening of a Star Wars movie in costume, and this will hopefully be my last chance.

Short of being STOKED, though, I am pretty optimistic. Lucas seems to be learning from his mistakes, and he’s running out of mistakes to make. So I expect it to be pretty good.

(a) female Star Wars geeks are hot
(b) I saw it last night. I’m about to start a thread about it. Anyone who wants to may stand near me and feel the Star Wars-y radiance

Yeah, I’m pretty stoked. Star Wars defined my childhood.

Everything I’ve read indicates that this is going to be the best of the prequels – it seems like it’s going to be, in many ways, the Empire of this cycle. If you consider all six movies as a whole, this is sort of the end of the second act, and we’ll walk out of the theatre with everything kind of in chaos, like we did after ESB, with that “That was cool, but holy crap!” feeling. I like that recursion.

I’m also jazzed that this one is consciously trying to bridge back to the 1977 aesthetic, with the hair and costumes, and all.

And, dude, I finally get to see the Wookie warriors that I was promised in 1981. Return of the Jedi was such a huge disappointment, and the Ewoks were such a rip-off. This seems like a bit of an acknowledgement that the Ewoks were a grievous error in judgement. Lucas has made redemption such a central theme in his story – and this is his opportunity to redeem himself for that broken promise. Yay!

Plus, I was one of those kids for whom Boba Fett instantly became the archetype of Badass, even before Empire Strikes Back opened. So i’m really looking forward to seeing where his revenge-seeking for the killing of his daddy goes. Woot! Go, Buckethead! Show 'em who the real BMF is.

i’ll be there opening day. the theatr i go to doesn’t have a midnight show, so it will be the afternoon show.

i kinda miss the old fashion “will we get in?” pre internet lines. they were fun.

Friday night, a couple of my friends (who couldn’t care less about Star Wars, strange as it may seem) were trying to decide if I would care this much if I weren’t guaranteed a great deal of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen flailing at each other with glowy swords.

Then I showed up wearing my Rebel Alliance insignia t-shirt, and (after I explained what it was–they are infidels) settled the discussion–I would still care, no matter what.

But glowy swords and sweaty Jedi help.

I was born in 1983 so I missed the originals, and was too old to get really caught up in it all when Episode I came out.
I didn’t see either of the prequels in the cinema and I only properly watched the original trilogy within the last year or so.
I have never, as far as I can recall, picked up a stick and waved it about making lightsaber noises.

But damn I’m looking forward to this movie
