Who else made a weight loss resolution? Raise your hand!

10 for me, though it’s not the weight, I know my main problem is that I just need to exercise…

I don’t like gyms… (okay, so I can’t afford a gym)

I live in Minnesnowta…

Perhaps fitness is just not meant to be.

Home exercise videos? No snow inside.

Not that I have any to recommend, but…

I joined WW Online last Monday. I’m trying to get back to my pre-medication weight, which means dropping about 30 pounds. I hope to get there by Memorial Day and then maintain it for the whole summer at least.

So far, it seems to be a program I can work with, and the online WW community seems very supportive. I have to thank scout1222 for her comments in a thread about WW last year, which inspired me to check it out. Thankya!

I have extra LiveJournal codes, if anyone would like one to make a weight loss journal or is interested in starting a sdmb weight loss community. Email me and I’ll send you one, while supplies last.

Hey, cool!

I have! Of course, in this thread, I also predicted that I would fail… We’ll see

Im not used to pounds but i reckon i need ta lose about 100 pounds or they’ll be burying me in a piano container at the tender age of 30. So a starvation diet is in order or perhaps something more feasible, less drastic.

Mogiaw

I’m another one.

I was 135 kg (c. 297 lb) in May, down to 108 (c. 237 lb) in early November, but I’ve been there or thereabouts ever since. This year I’m going to get to the gym in an effort to get myself down to about 95 kg. My height and body shape wouldn’t let me get much smaller than that.

Hopefully I’ll gain some weight. I wanna get big and muscular.

I made my NY resolution to lose weight and get fit in November to take the pressure off in New Year.

I have definite health reasons for needing to lose the weight and weight watchers didn’t work for me, and I couldn’t afford the "lite and easy’ home delivered meal option so my GP suggested a modified fast program called Modifast (or Optifast). Its a meal replacement program, around 500 calories a day, you can eat salad and some fruit to keept the intestines happy.
I am also walking at least 30 minutes everyday.

I am happy to report I have lost 8.8 kilos in 6 weeks! Nearly halfway there.
Go me!!

I want to lose about 45 pounds by next New Year’s Day. That’ll ensure that my weight isn’t an issue anymore, especially if I can keep it off.

As per another thread (one that I started, but haven’t figured out how to link to, sorry), I’ve given up refined sugar, white flour, white rice and potatoes. Started Jan. 1st, am over the worst of the withdrawal. I don’t know how fast I’ll lose weight doing this, as I won’t weigh myself again til next Monday. I’d like to lose about 115 lbs. (yeah, you read right. I’m pretty big). I don’t have any idea how long this will take me, though, and probably won’t have a clear idea til about April or so.

Sort of. Two years ago I resolved to start exercising and eating better and lose a few pounds. That I did, and then found out the awful truth: in order to maintain the look of the new improved me, I needed to keep exercising and eating right. Dammit. That I also did, at some expense to my sanity. My latest resolution is to keep it up for a third year running, and step it up a couple of notches.

You know…

I sure think so. I sure hope so. I’ve told my wife that if I don’t make it this year, I’ll probably stop trying. She wasn’t hearing any of that, but got my message: I’ve gotten pretty tired of not succeeding for so long. (Not quite: a glitch in my aforelisted resolutions–in 1993 I did make it down to my target weight, but I’ve been packing them back on–with interest–ever since.) Strangely, I do seem to have more resolve this year; I think that if I can make it to my birthday (2/26) without slipping back into my old ways, then I can make it all year.

Of course, I’m drinking beer right now, which isn’t the best idea… but at least I’ve successfully avoided sugar and refined flour and cheese all day and, indeed, all week! Woo-hoo!

I’m resolving to continue my good progress from this past year. I haven’t been trying to lose weight so much as lose fat and build muscle: I replaced all snacks with fruits and vegetables, cut out fast food, cut back on fried foods and meats, and started regular aerobic and anerobic exercise (more regular since I started a full-time job with predictable hours). I was at about 25% body fat around the start of 2002, and have gotten myself down to 13% at my last measuring (the gym has a really neat full-body reader). I still weigh about the same, but I find myself now staring happily at the mirror when I get out of the shower. My wife has also said it’s a real turn-on.

I’m really happy with what I’ve achieved so far, and I resolve to continue working at it and not lose what I’ve built up.

I’m doing the same thing. I started in the beginning of October. I haven’t weighed myself in a few years but I have been from tight fitting size 40 trousers to somewhat loose size 38 trousers. My goal is to shed the excess fat and build more muscle.

I’ve been good about not eating junk food, cutting out the soda, and snacking on fruits and vegetables. I’ve also been getting to the gym five times a week. My goal for the new year is to keep it up and fit into my old clothes.

Good Luck everyone.

I don’t want to go with weight, because I also intend to get back into my lifting routine which has been off for a few months now. I also intend to start biking regularly. Real biking, none of this machine stuff. Lots of good trails in the Arlington area. I basically started ballooning up in the last half year since I stopped rowing, so I need to find a replacement activity. I’ll be biking for an hour or two around Arlington on weekdays, alternating with weights. On weekends, I’ll take a big trip, maybe up a ways on the C&O, or up through Rock Creek up to Rockville. Those will last a few hours.

I’m generally pretty good about eating, but I’m going to cut back on the ice-cream and snacks. And alcohol. :frowning:

My goal is to get down to a 32 inch waist. I’m currently at around 35. I don’t know how long a reasonable time to do that is. But I suspect I need to lose about 20-30 pounds of fat, so I figure two or three months to lose the waist and then just maintenance. I don’t gain weight that fast when I’m in my exercise groove, so I’m not too worried about keeping it off.

I was thinking about starting up a thread like this, too. Maybe keeping a thread going as a sort of exercise journal, so if we start falling off the wagon we can yell at each other.

Yup. Back to the gym on Monday; the big grocery run is today.

I’ve just found out that I have a dangerously high body fat percentage. So, I need to lose fat mass and gain muscle mass, in order to lower the risk of developing life-shortening medical conditions. I want to lose 15-20 pounds of fat, and put on a little muscle too.

As soon as I found out that although I look OK, from a body fat percentage point of view, I’m obese and headed for an early grave, all that fatty food didn’t seem appealing any more.

I’ve cut out sweet and fatty snacks. I had a bad habit of snacking at the computer. I’m reducing the amount of meat in my diet, reducing the amount of frying in my cooking, and increasing the amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. I used to have quite a healthy diet a few years ago - I need to get back to it.

I’m planning to alternate days of walking/running with days of muscle-building. I’m too scared to join a gym, because physical exercise/sport/working out is tied to ritual public humiliation in my mind (thanks to all the gym teachers at school for that, you were great). So until I’m past the stage of “flabby fat assed weakling” I’ll be doing the exercise where no one can see me.

I’ve tried it before, but it’s always been because “maybe I should” and I’ve ended up slipping back into a rich diet and sedentary lifestyle. Now it’s because “I don’t want to die too soon” and I reckon that’s a better motivation.

I could stand to lose about 25 pounds or so. 190 would be my ideal weight, I think (6’3" tall), but I’d be happy at 200.

The wife is starting an Atkins program this weekend, but I don’t know if I’m ready for that. I would miss my pasta and breads way too much.

Why is caffiene bad for a diet?

Abe Babe IANADietitian, but the way I understand it is that caffeine consumption slows weight loss for some people. Myself, having given up refined sugars and flour and potatoes and corn products, I don’t feel ready to give up my coffee as well. So I’m trying it for two weeks without giving up the coffee. If, after the first two weeks, I’m unhappy with my results, I’ll try cutting out the coffee for a couple of weeks, and see if that helps. However, if I can lose weight at a satisfactory rate and still have my (Splenda-sweetened) java in the morning, I’ll be happy about it.
