Who else wants a Gmail account?

I know this has been done before, but my 98 invitations are just going unused.
So, if’n you wants one, just send an email to my junk account (screen name at hotmail dot com) and I’ll send you a generic invite.

Make sure to make your subject Gmail, otherwise it goes in the trash. If you don’t get the invite within a day or so, just resend the request.

IMHO, the higher percentage of Gmail users that are dopers, the better.

And to all the people who feel they must jump into these threads and proclaim how much they do not want a gmail account; we get it. You don’t want one. This is a thread for folks who want them. Close it and move on.

I’ve already got one and having got used to it, I like it quite a bit. My question is; why do I need an invite when I can just go and sign up myself?

Not trying to be a smartass or nuthin’… just askin’…

I love gmail. I have a very active yahoogroup, and the way you can set it to automatically sort and group incoming messages (my group gets as many as 500 posts a day at times  ) makes it way, way easier. I’ve got many of the group members on it and it’s gone over real well.
I’ve set up three gmail accounts for different purposes, and have all but abandoned Outlook and Yahoo mail.
I don’t think you can sign yourself up, unless they’ve changed that. As far as I know, you still need an invite for the initial account? Then you can create more for yourself.

Well, you have to use your cell phone to sign up, not everybody has a cell phone. Plus, some people have to pay for each SMS.

Or do they have a “normal” sign up process now that doesn’t require a cell phone?

I’ve got a bunch too, if anyone wants…you can e-mail me at elenia25 @ gmail.com

Oh yeah, I also have buttloads of invites, email me at revtim at gmail dot com, with an appropriately descriptive title.

I have more …

I’m not putting my email address up here because it’s my actual real name! Privately would be cool though.

I guess I signed up a while ago when none of this mobile phone nonsense was necessary.

Still, I’m glad I did. I’m migrating over from hotmail. It’s taking a bit longer than expected.

You must have done it through an invite then right? AFAIK there was never a process to just sign up like other webmail accounts.

Just out of curiousity…what’s the advantage to having a Gmail account? My yahoo account is my most active personal one, and I have one through my broadband provider that I don’t use much. I had a hotmail account, but I dropped it in favor of my yahoo account.

Convince me.

I will never ever go back to Yahoo! Mail.

Gmail has so much more storage space. But that’s not all.

Gmail lets you label your e-mails. So I can label all your e-mails “ivylass”, then click on ivylass, and all your e-mails come up.

That’s not all! I can set it so all e-mails from, say, ivylass@yahoo.com, automatically get labeled Ivylass.

Also, it threads conversations. So if you and I are chatting back and forth all day long, instead of having 50 different e-mails we have one, that threads, in separate little boxes. I can collapse all these boxes and only see the current one, or I can expand them, and see them all. Provided we keep the subject the same. Each new subject is a new thread.

The Spam filter is phenomenal.

You can do it in a bunch of different languages.

There is a vacation responder. i love this, since I tend to get tons of (real) e-mails when I’m gone for a few days.

There is a Gmail notifier. I know there is a YahoO! notifier. But the Gmail notifier runs in the background and not only tells you who it’s from, but also shows you the first few lines of the message.

And Gmail now has a chat function built right in. Which means if I’m at work where I can’t install anything I can still chat to people through Gmail without downloading a darn thing!

Plus it’s still beta, which means they’re constantly upgrading and adding new features.

And those are just a few of the wonderful things. Want an invite?

Now that I think about it… you are right. :smack:

Sure, why not? My e-mail addy is available by clicking on my user name. I’m not going to get 50 thousand e-vites to send out, am I?

I’ve got about 95 invites left, myself. Send any and all inquiries to davmilasav@myway.com since my gmail addy is my real name, too.

Here’s some from me.
