Who Else Would You Like to See Write a Simpsons Episode?

Last Sunday’s episode by Ricky Gervais brought mixed reviews from Dopers ranging from mind-numbingly dumb (Me! Me!) to absolutely brilliant! (A bunch of others.) I got to thinking it might be fun for us to consider what other people we’d like to see write a Simpsons episode. Who would you choose if you could?

I’m not up-to-date with current humorists but I think Jerry Seinfeld could write something funny. Maybe put Moe in a George-like role and make Otto Krameresque.

I’d like to see Garrison Keillor’s perspective on Springfield.

Whoever writes My Name is Earl could come up with some goofy situations for Homer and Bart.

I’m sure you guys can do better. What do you have?

Dang! I had a premonition about that darned link but forgot to preview it!

It’d be interesting to see what Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett could do. JMS probably deserves a shot as well.

Someone from Arrested Development - Mitch Hurwitz, Barbara Feldman, whoever. Or Tom Stoppard.

Richard Curtis & Ben Elton
Joss Whedon
Russell Davies
Chris Elliott
David Cross and Bob Odenkirk
Joel and Ethan Coen
Charlie Kaufman
Andy Merrill
Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis
Linwood Boomer
Seth MacFarlane (now that would get ratings)

… off the top of my head.

Also Brannon Braga, just to see if the suckiness of latter-day Simpsons combined with the suckiness of latter-day Star Trek to create some sort of Cosmic Event Horizon of Suck.

Dan Brown. It would be hilarious, but not for any of his intended reasons.

I like some of these suggestions! If they ever run out of ideas (assuming they haven’t already) they could just do a whole season of guest-written episodes.

Stephen King?
Mel Brooks?
Steve Martin?
Conan O’Brien? (oh, wait…)
Dave Barry?
Dave Chapelle?
Weird Al Yankovic?
any or all of Monty Python?

Don Hertzfeldt

The ghost of Mitch Hedberg

M. Night Shyamalan would be interesting.

Have they ever spoofed his stuff in a Treehouse of Horror episode? I can’t think of one, and he’s REALLY begging for it.

David Mamet

I bet Tom Robbins could write a wonderful Simpsons episode. The show has dipped into the surreal more than once, and Robbins might be the ideal choice for a “Homer Eats Funny Mushrooms” plot.

Each member of Monty Python. Make it a contest to see whose is most funny.

Me.

“The Simpsons are going to Mars!”

OK, maybe not.

Harmony Korine.

Eddie Izzard

Wes Craven
Clive Barker

F. Scott Fitzgerald.

“You could put in a lot of swears, like David Mamet does!”

The hell with it.

Bring back Conan.

If we’re going to go that route, I’d really like to see George S. Kaufman, Morris Ryskind and S.J. Perelman write for the show.
