Who first recorded "Seven Bridges Road?"

I was listening to The Best of The Eagles yesterday and happened to noctice that the song was written by Steve Young and had at one time been recorded by Matthews Southern Comfort.

  1. Who is Steve Young?

  2. Who recorded it first?

Thank you!

Steve Young

Aside: “Seven Bridges Road” was written about Woodley Road in Montgomery, Alabama, my hometown. The road is so named because of the fact that it runs through the Catoma Creek swamp, with its ancient, moss-covered trees and palmetto understory, and the road-builders had to put in a series of bridges to deal with the frequent streams. The drive is quite beautiful, and gives you the impression of being in a forest far more primeval than one on the edge of a largish Southern city.
