Who here hates Julia Roberts and Russell Crowe?

I hate Julia Roberts because:

‘Love Is Nice’ You know what I’m talking about, don’t you?

Her attitude is bitchy, and false when she plays homely nicer than nice characters.
I hate Russell Crowe because:

‘He has his own band’

He thinks he’s the next Marlon Brando, and he’s a miserable ass.

Takes life too seriously

He won’t cut his hair and shave damnit!

Treats everyone around him like shit!
Why do you hate them?

I started hating Russell Crowe at the Oscars a few years ago. Steve Martin was hosting, and cracking jokes. They kept panning to him in the audience getting pissed. Dude! You could at least pretend to be amused! Get over yourself, jackass.

Julia Roberts… erm, I dont really care one way or another. I liked Erin Brokovich and My Best Friend’s Wedding, but the parts probably could have been played as well by someone else.

I depise Julia Roberts because she’s becoming the heir to Barbra Streisand in the “annoying, ill-informed, knee-jerk Hollywood liberal” category. Though Rosie O’Donnell is in the running as well.

(N.B.: I don’t dislike all Hollywood liberals, just the stupid uninformed ones. I can respect the likes of Rob Reiner and Mike Farrell even as I disagree with them – from what I’ve seen, they have a coherent world-view that they can articulate. Sadly, they are in the minority over in La-La land – the Roberts view seems to be “conservatives are bad people who hate children and cute puppies.”)

Roberts career seems to have stagnated with her peak with Erin brokovich.

Does any else think her career has stagnated???

Or will she bring out an single??? (Barbra Streisand)

I hate Julia with a passion. She’s insecure and not really a good actress. All she does is play with her hands. She’s only considered attractive because of her hair and makeup. Strip that away and you have Eric Roberts.

Crowe doesn’t bug me.

Heh good one oblong, but you don’t mind Russell Crowe? Guys, we’ve gotta convince him that russells an ass!

I’ve liked some of Russell Crowe’s work (A Beautiful Mind; Mystery, Alaska) but I think he is personally an asshole. Feel the same way about Tim Robbins.
Julia Roberts doesn’t bother me, but I think as an actress she’s merely adequate and all of the roles she’s done could have been done at least as well by someone else. Also, I’ll second the knee-jerk reactionism liberal.

I hate Julia Roberts with an undying passion. Nearly all of her movies grate on me, and she doesn’t seem to treat the people around her very well (poor Kiefer…). And that smile…guh! I’d say thet her brother’s the better actor.

Russell Crowe? I like his work, but I sure wouldn’t want to get stuck in an elevator with him. The man can act, but he seems like such a jerk.

I generally like crowes work aswell. But why is he an ass outside of work, I mean theres no need…is there??

I hate Julia Roberts because she looks like a human cartoon character. Ignatz Mouse comes to mind.

I hate Russell Crowe because he’s an arrogant aussie (no offense intended towards Austrailians), a jerk and far too handy with the ladies.

Thank you.

Roberts gets on my nerves-although I will say, her dress at the Oscars a few years ago was gorgeous.

It’s funny that you mention those two actors… my feelings about them are almost polar opposites.

Regarding Julia, I’ve long felt that she was a genuinely nice person. She was instrumental in putting together the groups of performers to read Pablo Neruda poems for the Il Postino soundtrack (a work of genius in itself), which earns her points in my book. She also makes a habit of donating often to lots of charities I like. She’s probably someone I’d enjoy hanging around with.

And yet, I can’t stand her in most movies. The only movie of hers I remotely liked was Mary Reilly, mostly because she toned her usual acting tendencies way down. Frankly, I think she’s not that attractive and not a very good actress… but don’t tell her I said that.

Russell Crowe’s the exact opposite. I get the distinct impression (well-supported, it seems) that he’s a complete ass of a person: quick to anger, somewhat violent, full of testosterone, constantly boiling over… just the kind of guy I avoid like the plague. However, I admire his acting talents a great deal. He’s no Gary Oldman, but he definitely has the capacity to mold himself into a role and take it on fully. From The Insider to Gladiator to A Beautiful Mind, I love to watch him work. But hang with him? Not on your life.

So, maybe I can call up Julia and we can go see a Russell Crowe movie together… that’ll be good.

I’ve never seen the appeal of Julia Roberts. She’s a mediocre actress and I don’t even think she’s particularly attractive. she’s too bony and angular for me.

Crowe, unlike Roberts, can be a mesmerising actor, but if all the tabloid stuff is true, is a complete asshole as a person.

Oh, and Dewey, let’s not forget all the towering CONSERVATIVE intellects out in hollywood. How about Ah-nuld, Stallone, Bo Derek, Tom Selleck, and of course, MOSES.

You say that like it’s a bad thing.

In this, I am America, and she is my Sweetheart. (Contrary to some opinions here, I have friends who have worked with her and report that she is extremely down to earth, friendly, hardworking, kind, approachable, and fun. Always makes it a point to learn the names and some personal details about all the crew members on her films, treats them as equals. Hell, how do you suppose she ended up marrying one?)

Russell Crow is an annoying bastard.

Julia Roberts is pretty lame, in that almost all of here movies are formulaic brainless crap. The only one i enjoyed was conspiracy theory. She could be a better actress if she went for more challenging stuff. Russel Crowe is overrated, undeserving of Best Actor, and makes me avoid certain movies. I dont think i will ever like him.

Oh I forgot to tell you, Stoid is obviously a manager for Julia’s PR machine!

(Oh yeah, LOVE IS NICE!)

In the interviews and talk shows I’ve seen her on, Julia seems pretty nice. But she is not a great actress and I don’t find her that attractive (she’s got a freakin’ HUGE mouth! Am I the only one disturbed by this?) As a person, I could take her or leave her, but I haven’t liked any of her movies to my recollection. Also, she’s a homewrecker. Didn’t she break up her current hubby’s marriage? Plus the string of broken hearts behind her. I guess maybe I really don’t like her after all.

Crowe, unfortunately, is a great actor and picks great movies to be in. LA Confidential. The Insider. A Beautiful Mind. Gladiator (though G was highly overrated, IMHO). There was that dog movie he made with America’s other sweetheart, Meg Ryan. He broke up her marriage, didn’t he? I sense a theme here. Anyway, he seems to be a pompous jerk, but I’ll keep going to his movies (unlike Roberts).

While I’m unfamiliar with Stallone and Derek (Stallone is, as far as I can tell, a “closet conservative” – he privately holds conservative beliefs but doesn’t express them publicly; Derek is similar, her appearance at the GOP convention notwithstanding), the other three are the conservative equivelants of Rob Reiner and Mike Farrell.

Ah-nuld is a moderate Republican who is pushing a ballot initiative for a kid’s program right now. Some are suggesting he run for governor.

Selleck is a conservative who holds pro-gun views, and can defend those views rationally. He was the measure of reserve when Rosie O’Donnell sprung her “gotcha” moment on him on her now-defunct show.

Heston – for all the loathing anti-gun activists heap on him – is similar to Selleck. He has a coherent world-view that he can explain. His knee doesn’t jerk. (Also note: Heston was active in civil rights marches in the 1960s; for some reason, he never gets credit for this).

I’d add Clint Eastwood to the above group, and Bruce Willis to the former (“closet conservative”) group.

It’s important to note that I’m not talking about celebrities who are merely liberal; I’m talking about the knee-jerk left, those who subscribe to a half-baked, reflexive liberalism that is more about platitudes than it is about considered judgment on the issues, the kind that says conservatives are eeeeeevill. I respect Reiner and Farrell; I do not respect Roberts and Streisand.

Frankly, I think you’re less apt to find a knee-jerk conservative in Hollywood simply because the social landscape is so tilted to the left – it takes genuine courage and careful consideration of the issues to be a conservative in the movie industry, just as it takes courage and careful consideration of the issues to be a liberal in a small southern town.

Well. I guess I don’t really care for Roberts either. I felt her Oscar acceptance hullaballoo was faked and based on Cuba Gooding Jr’s acceptance from an earlier year.

And I’ve never had very positive feelings about her. Why? I can’t say. I generally forget why I dislike a celebrity but am able to remember that I do dislike them. I know I have a dislike of Barry Bonds and have felt that way since way back when he was a Pirate with Bobby Bonilla, whom I liked and still like.

Crowe I’m ambivalent about.

I’ve got an idea, japatlgt: let’s hate people for their appearence.

In other news, pretty much everyone who “hates” a celebrity is lame. Lame, I tells ya!
