Who hires these camera people?

This is a rant.

Your job is to operate the camera. Make sure it is on and aimed at the subject. Get the person who is talking in focus. That’s about it.

Why are so many live interviews focused on the background and not the speaker?

I can guess some reasons:

[ul]
[li]Camera set to auto.[/li][li]Focus set to multi point and not center.[/li][li]Camera person told not to mess up expensive gear by playing with it.[/li][li]Standing closer than the minimum focus distance.[/li][li]Operator doesn’t know that the lens is focusable.[/li][/ul]
This even happens when the president is speaking. SAD!
Why is this so difficult to get right?

Pay peanuts…get monkeys…

Most TV cameras today are automated – there is no camera person operating it.
