Who implodes first: Brits or Yanks?

In terms of popcorn munching entertainment, the current British and American executives are delivering.

For a while, it looked like the British executive was leading the way to self-destruction. Brexit is a cliff that’s coming up quickly and no one seems to be trying to turn the carriage.

But wait, no one can outdo the President, he’s cancelling government until he gets the ball back. Nevermind how much that screws his base and everyone else, it’s all about him.

We all know reality will sledgehammer its way into the executive suite at some point. Who’s going to cave first, the Prime Minister or the President?

This thread is for those watching the sitcom version of these events. Those looking for UFC events should switch channels.

I grew up in a region of PA where “johnny bull” was the way everyone verbalized the thought “stubborn”; I say Trump folds first.

Let me put the kettle on.

May should have resigned yesterday; the Republicans are waiting until next week to oust Trump.

Give me XXX I want to see Trump & May in action. It’s the only thing silly enough to follow their individual acts.

Come on, simply in terms of tangible achievements May walks it. The biggest government defeat in a century!

Mind you - a banquet of burgers and fries…

I still have faith in the Democrats’ ability to cave even when completely unnecessary. Not that I want it to happen, but I’ve been burned too many times.

Since that wasn’t an option, and I think the Brits can milk the destruction for a few more weeks at least, I have to go with XXX games.

Heh, thanks. I now have to contend with this visual anytime I think of the Democratic party.

Unlike us the British have a sensible way of getting rid of a mis-behaving premier. It going to be far easier for May’s opponents to get her out by switching over 10 of 325 “yes” confidence votes to no, than it is to come up with 16 out of 52 Republican senators to vote for impeachment.

It’s your funerals. I’d personally rather perform an emergency eye-ectomy with a blunt butter knife than see Induhvidual-1 au natural.

C’mon! Not even a little bit of morbid curiosity? Let’s go Black Mirror–Induhvidual-1 and a hog, in exchange for him and his VP vacating the White House and nothing else said about the dealings that got him there in the first place. Screw pig, step down, go away. An unjust pardon in exchange for immediate damage control. Wouldn’t want to see that?
Yeah, me neither. But still…

How about a l’orange?

Thread-winner!

Very nice.

I’m giving this to May. Both parties are deserving, but I think she’s gotten to the breaking point sooner. Trump is apparently just going to sit around and wait for the world to blow up. Yay?

The Economist’s editorial cartoon captures the same sentiment this week.

… The Aristocrats!

If I were May, I would ask the commons to approve a new referendum toute de suite and make it a confidence motion. Assuming they vote it down, she can walk away with her head held high. If the lemmings insist on going off the cliff, no one can stop them.

As for Trump, it is not the 2/3 they need to impeach that’s in play. First they have to get the fucking turtle out of his shell and allow a vote, then 2/3 of both houses have to override. Let airspace close and it will happen.

Not the Yanks.

I think the determining factor here is that the USofA does not have a parliamentary form of government that requires us to “form a government” or express confidence in the leadership. We know that if we screw up and elect the wrong people, we have exactly X years (choose 2, 4, or 6) and then we get another chance. We’ll just wait it out. It might suck a lot during that time, but relief will arrive. It’s like signing up for a bad mobile phone plan and you have to wait 24 months to drop it or you’ll owe for your phone. Or, it’s like getting a bad haircut.

Impeachment is basically a pipe dream, in spite of what people wish for. Our only other alternative is to hope for a criminal indictment for (choose one) fraud, bribery, stock manipulation, or other.

I doubt that either will implode. The UK has a very stubborn leader and I won’t touch on President Trump. They have both faced large issues before (the countries).

And that’s how it’s looked to me since 2016 :(.

I always thought turtles were vertebrates, but maybe I was mistaken…Off to Google…
