Mossimo is the “upscale” fashion brand sold at target.
Is there actually a designer of this name?
Or is it just a made-up name, for a slightly better version of the stuff sold at the store?
Don’t know the answer, but a friend who was going to USC at the time (circa 1989-1990) told me a buddy in his fraternity started Mossimo as a school business project.
It was started back in 1981 by designer Mossimo Giannulli.
So much for my theory. You know how guys from USC are…
He’s married to Uncle Jesse’s wife.
Wiki says 1986. And…
Thanks-I am geniunely surprised that there is a such a guy.
I figured it was an italian-sounding name, so people were thinking they were getting Versace, Armani,D&G, at cut rates.
I hear the stuff is pretty good.
Mossimo was a much higher-priced surfer-chic brand at one point. I remember in the early nineties paying quite a lot for what was basically a slightly fancy tshirt. As they expanded, they dropped prices and became a mass-market rather than a boutique brand.
The wikipedia page probably can’t be trusted too much, since in one paragraph it says the company was founded in 1986, and in another, 1987.
