I can’t be the only one who has noticed this guy is in damn near every commerical. He looks like he’s in his mid-twenties with Cosmo Kramer like hair. He’s kinda odd looking. That’s why I noticed him. I first noticed him a few months ago in a Best Buy commercial. The one where the customer imagines what would happen if he bought really large speakers. The black guy was the Best Buy employee in that commercial. Then he was in commericals for Toyota, Vick’s Medicine, and some deoderant commerical. I have seen this guy in at least 12 commercials. Now he has a Mc Donald’s commercial (the one with the chicken strips and the old lady), and a Diamond commercial (is the crying a *good * thing?). Why won’t he stay off my television?
I can’t picture the guy you’re talking about, but I’ve noticed before when actors begin appearing in a lot of commercials. There’s a guy who’s in several lately; he’s a white guy, in his early 20s, a bit chubby with spiky hair. He’s in:
That Taco Bell commercial where he and his buddies are at the doctor’s office because he’s full from a value menu;
The car commercial (VW?) where he’s doing a test drive and laughing maniacally whenever he accelerates past another car; and
The NFL apparel commercial where some NFL players hit a tackling dummy, then our guy climbs out of it and steals their jerseys and runs off.
He may be in others that I haven’t noticed. I wonder how this happens; what behind-the-scenes machinery is at work when someone becomes a “hot property” in TV ads?
Those two guys must have great agents or something. I had a friend who was in a national commercial. He made good money. I would imagine those two guys are making a killing.
I can’t help with this guy, but the former “black guy in every commercial” from a few years back was Hill Harper, who now has a regular gig as the medical examiner on CSI:NY. Maybe this guy will graduate to a series sometime soon…
No, its not him. This guy isn’t famous to my knowledge.
No, but I like that guy.
The guy I’m talking about is on 2 current national commercial that I know of. The first is a McDonald’s commercial about their chicken selects. The commercial has two versions. The first is the black guy and some white guy discussing the chicken selects. The black guy talks about how good they are (while dipping them in spicy chipotle sauce) while the white guy keeps countering, “that’s what they want you to think.” The second version is based on the same premise. This time they are in a laundromat. The black guy offers the chicken to an old lady. She says they are good. The white guy says the old lady is a plant put there by Mc Donald’s.
The other commercial is one for diamonds. The black guy hands his girlfriend a diamond and she begins to cry. He leans in and says, “the crying…is it a good thing?” She says, “yes, it’s a very good thing.” Then they kiss.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who noticed how often this guy is on TV.
He’s also in the Old Spice commercial where there are two girls sitting at the kitchen table while their BF’s are watching the game and acting like doofs in the room behind them. One guy comes over and gives his GF a hug. The guy your talking about is the friend of that guy.
He was also in the Mountain Dew Orange commercial where the guys act like moths attracted to the light when the soda vending machine lights up.
Yes, and he was in a commercial for Golden Grahams, playing a kid whose parents pick him up for a visit from college. Then they leave him by the side of the road when he tells them he missed Golden Grahams so much that he just might eat the whole box.
I think he was in an episode of CSI (what is it with that show and this thread), too; I think he was the guy who got punched in the back of the head at the bar and died a day or so later.
I may be wrong.
Was the black guy in question also in a commercial about a year ago for McGriddles or whatever they were called?
On my way to work this morning, I was thinking of starting a thread asking if there’s an IMDB-type site for commercials.
The guy jackelope’s talking about has a thick neck (for his body type, anyway), a buzz cut and was in another commercial wherein his eyes start talking to him while he’s in a restroom (it was freaky). He was also in a Circuit City commercial wherein he starts running through the store all crazy-like mere minutes after he and his wife were in the car discussing their game plan.
I thought the OP was going to ask about another black guy in commercials. He’s a bit older than the guy in the McDonald’s and Kays (christ, do people really shop there?) commercial. This guy was on Seinfeld as one of Elaine’s co-workers. He was also in an Avis (or was it Hertz?) commercial. He said something along the lines of “Check out the new guy. Mister I’m-Too-Good-To-Stand-In-Line.”
And then there’s the fat, white guy, who was also on Seinfeld. He was a mechanic at the dealership where Putty worked and Jerry was going to buy a Saab. He took George’s Twix bar (it’s the only bar with the cookie crunch, you see). He’s been in Aamco and other assorted commercials. That guy is everywhere, but thick neck/buzz cut dude’s starting to give him a run for his money.
While we are on Who’s That Black Guy? [s/zie=1] Sidebar: Wouldn’t that be a great name for a game show?[/size]
Who is the guy who is the State Farm ( or Allstate) who is in all their commercials. I love him in a Morgan Freeman kinda of way. Intelligence and competance radiates from him.
Sometime I watch them get onto TV. The first time I ever noticed was with the guy who was in a Keystone Beer commercial long ago. He’s so cool after drinking Keystone and avoiding bitter beer face that he has a woman on each arm and says, ala James Bond, “Pack your bags. We leave tonight!!”
I noticed him again as the guy that marries the tomboy player in A League Of Their Own, then again here and there in things I’ve forgotten, but I definitely remember watching Pirates Of Silicon Valley on TV and recognizing him - he played Woz.
Now he’s a pretty well-known TV actor. Most recently he was Dr. Bobolit in Nip/Tuck. Joey Slotnick.
