Who is that Guy?

He’s the fellow that narrates all kinds of educational programs, and has for 25 years, or more. He has a very distinctive voice- he’s done thousands of programs, and I think he did “Clear Eyes” commercial for a little while (No, not Ben Stein!)

I’m wondering if he looks really bizarre compared to his voice, sort of like Paul Harvey, who has quite the cranium.

“…I know the one you mean” isn’t much help, though.

Only guy I can think of that does Discover documentaries is Peter Graves from Mission Impossible. I know Patrick Stewart has done a few, but I don’t know of anyone that has done the Clear Eyes commercials. Another voice-great is, of course, James Earl Jones…but I don’t think either of these guys are the ones you’re talking about.

Nope, they all have dulcet tones, but that ain’t the guy…

I remember him in grade school, doing educational ‘filmstrip’ voiceovers (I’m dating myself)
He’s also done some political ads as well. He’s pretty versatile, I guess. You’ve heard him a hundred times, guaranteed.

You don’t mean Alexander Scourby do you?

The name sounds right, if that makes any sense.

How would I know if it’s Alex, though? Let me run some web searches.

Nope. Gotta be someone still alive and kicking.

I betcha it’s George Page.

How about Dick Tufeld or Gary Owens?

Well, the name George Page is difficult to do a web search on, not surprisingly. I got hits for everything from “The Rock of Chickamaugua; Major General George Page”; to just about every web Page associated with a George (which is a lot, let me tell ya) Limiting the search to “narrator george page” hasn’t been much utility either.
I appreciate the help, though.

Can you give us a particular example?

The only specific example I can give for sure is the “Clear Eyes” commercial he did a year or two back. He has this strange accent.

I think I heard him on a History Channel program today (he’s everywhere) I’ll watch it on the flip side and see if I can catch the credits. No big deal.

Is this the same guy who did the Oxy-5 commercials for so many years? I don’t know the name, but he did have a very distinctive voice.

I gotta believe it’s George Page. I think I remember him doing a Visine commercial. He also narrates a bunch of stuff on PBS, like the “Nature” series and the occasional “Nova”. He does have a great voice, would’ve made a great airline pilot.

The easiest solution to your problem… next time one of these shows is on TV, watch for the narrarator’s name in the credits… ;)

Now that I have that cleared up (I think) I need to find a picture, because I have to see what this goober looks like, with such an annoying voice.

I think you are referring to Ben Stein. He has been in Clear Eyes commercials within the past few years. He has a nasal monotone voice. He was in The Wonder Years and Ferris Bueller’s Day off. Here is a link to the IMDB with a picture:

PETER THOMAS is that guy.

I saw a cheesy crime documentary on Court TV last night and his was the name that was listed as narrator.

Phouchg, I have edited your post. We discourage copying and pasting of so much information, even though your source is probably not copyrighted (the words FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE indicates that). Such long posts delay loading time and only part of it is likely to be of interest to the average reader.

We require that when quoting you provide a link to your source, which in this case appears to be http://www.internationalcollege.edu/pressrel/18-05-00.htm Providing the link can be as simple as pasting the URL into your posts, being careful to leave a blank space on either side of it.

By the way, thanks for the answer. I hope he’s the same guy the OP was thinking of. I was afraid we might never get to the bottom of it.

No.

Peter Thomas! Yes, thanks you Phouchg! That’s gotta be the guy. Now, off for extensive, detailed research. This could take years (It’s taking longer than I thought)
