There’s some reactionary Republican representative or senator who hails from Florida. He’s supposedly in the closet but lives with a guy so it’s really kind of an open secret. I can’t remember the not-altogether-intellectually-consistent son of a B’s name and I need it to complete a brilliant witticism. Won’t you please help?
You might be talking about U.S. Rep. Mark Adam Foley (R-Fla. 16th Dist.). He has taken the public position that his sexuality is nobody’s business. Which I would tend to agree with except for the fact that he is a member of a homophobic party.
You mean there’s only one?
So then he should be a Democrat because no Democrats are homophobes? Despite what he believes about the rest of the issues? Because every last Republican is a homophobe?
Take a pill, acsenray.
To confirm it, yes, the suspected gay Rep from Florida is Foley (who, BTW, actually, while no liberal, is considerably less conservative than most of his fellow Florida Reps).
No pill needed, here, thanks. The fact is that the Republican party’s policies and legislation is controlled by the homophobic wing of the party. The fact is that the Republican party as a whole uses homophobic appeals in order to win elections, both while running for office and for their legislative programs, appointments, etc. Electing more Republicans will result in a more hostile stance with regard to homosexuals on the part of government and in the public arena as a whole. In my mind that makes Foley’s sexuality fair game. If he really is homosexual, it’s completely fair to make him answer for his party’s homophobic public stance.
That’s the guy. Thanks.
And thank you, HeyHomie for raising the level of discourse. Thanks to your efforts, I am now thinking of becoming a conservative. Be sure to take yourself out to dinner before coming home and tying yourself up.
