Oh dear God. You win. I give up. This is the answer. I think that whatever Jon Lovitz achieves or doesn’t achieve in his career, the high point for me will always be that he hit Andy Dick.
I don’t mind Carrot Top’s brand of comedy, although I can’t really look at him these days. He’s becoming Scary Clown Man.
I also refrained from voting for Daniel Tosh even though I loathe his clip show because I used to think Bob Saget was similarly execrable due to his AFHV non-jokes, but in stand-up he’s really pretty funny. I’m going to give Tosh the benefit of the doubt here.
I voted for Gallagher, although Louie Anderson, Roseanne Barr, and (not on the list) Janeane Garofalo would surely have come pretty close.
I was a massive Dice fan back in the day–but only for select albums. And of the most hated comics listed so far, he’s the only one with a classically brilliant comedy album “The Day The Laughter Died”. The rest is malakia.
Dane Cook’s popularity annoys me, but not his act.
Lisa Lamanpanelli for me. I absolutely cannot stand that rancid old cunt.
There are quite a few on the poll who I don’t like and wouldn’t go to see if I was paid to. But at least one point in time I did like them a bit, or at least not hate them. Dane Cook for example. I really don’t like that sumbitch, but there was a time when I found him really very funny. Its true, believe it or not!
But this bitch…she wouldn’t know comedy if it bashed her over the head with a brick and assaulted her. The others may not be very funny, but at least they can tell a joke. At least humor isn’t a foreign concept, needing complex diagrams.
Jeff Dunham is a glaring omission. He wins the “worst comedian ever” award from me just for the glaring racism of his entire act. At least the other redneck comedians aren’t so obviously hateful.
“Hey, it’s not racism because Dunham makes fun of everyone” doesn’t fly. He’s scum and his act is horrible. I actually lost a little respect for my own sister after hearing that she bought tickets to see him and enjoyed the show.shudder
“Flabbergasted” is more like it to me, esp given some of the great comedians on here - even if they aren’t your cup of tea, they at least had real talent, which is more than I can say for that pig.
Generally I’m so tired of alleged comedians who can’t be “funny” unless they swear and/or say vulgar/dirty/sexist/racist/etc stuff. I’m no prude, those things CAN be funny at times, but what lame and overused crutches those things are, esp nowdays. I could probably list many more if I even recalled their names but I quickly forgot many I saw on Comedy Channel/etc who were similarly lame. Kept thinking “you should NOT have quit your day job…”
Surprised at all the Gallagher hate. He did some great stuff. In fact he was doing the “did you ever notice” silly stuff in life before Seinfeld came along.
My vote for most bizarro choice on the list is Bill Cosby. wtf? He’s not my favorite, but IMO one of the best stand-up comedians ever. Oh well
Margaret Cho appeals strictly to the bi/lesbian crowd, and clearly they have no sense of humour to begin with. She’s incredibly unfunny, she’s a lousy interview, and absolutely no stage presence with which to win over a crowd.
But you’re right–there’s nothing worse than a comic who’s blue and bad.
I picked **Rosanne **and Whoopi. Chick comedians, almost universally, aren’t funny. The few old-school ones like Rivers & Diller, their entire act consists of telling you how ugly & miserable they are. And newer ones just tell ‘chick’ jokes. Sarah Silverman is a good exception, she’s just funny. She doesn’t wear her gender on her sleeve or make it the nexus of her act. Maria Bamford is truly original too.
For the write-in candidate I nominate Russell Brandt. Unfunny, annoying, pretentious teabag…
Carrot Top may not be everyones cup of tea but he is a long term successful Vegas headliner making gazillions of dollars. He may be just a prop comic but he is very good at it.
Back before her sitcom, Roseanne was funny. Then she used up all the funny in the show until it ran out. Then they made a few more seasons, pushing her into negative-funny territory. Now she is way overdrawn at the Funny Bank and is subsisting entirely on government-issue batshit.
I have mixed feelings about Brand (no t). I find his stand-up act really irritating but his acting is much better than it has any right to be and he is capable of saying intelligent, insightful things when you least expect it. So no, not funny, but occasionally worth paying attention to.
Yep, I came in here to basically say the same thing. The comics listed on this list that are from 30+ years ago; shouldn’t even be on this list. Humor is a lot more sophisticated now than it was even in the 70s. Phyllis Diller, Don Rickles, and the like; were widely considered hilarious in their day.
