I’m not the biggest standup comedy fan, but one I do like who wasn’t mentioned was Mitch Hedberg. He had a strange, almost surreal style that was unique. Unfortunately, he died quite young.

Kathleen Madigan is just about the only female comedienne I can laugh at anymore.

@zimaane, Hedberg is on the list.

The missing comic on my vote was Maria Bamford

Someone not listed = Tig Notaro

Admittedly, I wasn’t familiar with the stand up routines of every single comedian on that list.

+ James Acaster

My bad. I’d have voted for him if I saw him.

Also not listed: Frankie Boyle, Dara O Briain, Romesh Ranganathan, Lee Mack, Jon Richardson, Sarah Millican, Haley Morris, and Jimmy Carr. There are a dozen more British comics with whom I’m familiar, but that group can always make me laugh. Also not included, an up-and-coming American, Taylor Tomlinson.

I won’t say that Eddie Izzard is the funniest human being ever, because there’s a lot of human history that I don’t have any access to.

So instead, I’ll just say that Eddie Izzard is the funniest human being since the invention of audiovisual recording.

I’m glad to see this thread. I have been watching the podcast KillTony for almost 2 years and have found some funny comics on it, such as William Montgomery, David Lucas, Jared Nathan, Ahron Belisle( he uses a voice generator as he cant speak), Theo Vonn, Thai Rivera.

Of the ones not in the poll, I’ll second Kathleen Madigan mentioned upthread, though it’s been awhile since I’ve heard her standup. I also enjoy: Sam Morrill, Taylor Tomlinson, Liz Miele, Mark Normand. When I’m in a very vulgar mood, I enjoy Stavros Halkias’s crowd work (though I prefer Morrill’s), but Stav I can only take in Youtube shorts doses, and the subject matter tends to be one-dimensional. But he makes me laugh. My overall favorite, though, is probably Norm. But, once again, gotta be in the right mood for that, but his ability to make the stupidest old-timey jokes work just sends me.

IMHO, he was at his best earlier in his career, ie Live at the Ambassadors.

Jim Jefferies. Tom Segura.

Oh, yeah, forgot those two, as well, though it’s more Segura’s work I’m familiar with. He’s great.

Bert Kreischer. Although based on most of the bits of his I’ve seen he’s not so much a comedian so much as he’s a guy who’s lived an insane life and just has a ton of great stories that happen to be really funny. He literally got his start by becoming famous for partying as a student at FSU. He’s the actual inspiration for the film Van Wilder.

Jim Gaffigan is my favorite living and active comedian.

George Carlin is the greatest of all time, though. Miss him.

I have only been to see a few comedians. Many years ago I saw the duo Hudson and Landry (where Bambi goes, nothing grows). Very funny, find their Ajax Liquor Store bit on You Tube. Saw Jay Leno in Las Vegas back in 1979. Didn’t think he would become as big of a draw that he became. Saw Amy Schumer at our local fair. She had her moments, her bit about tampon vending machines had folks rolling in the aisles. The next year saw Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy. Foxworthy was very funny as expected, Larry was a lot more than “Git 'er done”.

In my younger days I was big on Cheech and Chong, Richard Pryor and Bob Newhart. I had a number of comedy albums back in the day.

New comics I find funny are Kathleen Madigan and the not often mentioned Dusty Slay.

Currently, Jim Jefferies. Also, Sebastian Maniscalco. Partly because he is very funny and partly because a friend of ours looks very much like him and has many of the same mannerisms. I think its an Italian thing.

Not on list:

Lewis Black.

Gabriel “Fluffy” Inglesias.

Bill Cosby. Yes, he was a monster in real life but on stage was brilliant.
