Who is the most famous person killed by covid-19 so far?

For me, John Conway was the biggest name. A couple years ago, I ended up driving him around town on a visit to Montreal and he was in pretty bad shape. I was surprised to find he was a year younger than me.

I forget the name and he wasn’t famous, but a man died this week of the virus whose twin brother died (as an infant) of the flu in 1919. His son described the twins as “bookends”.

Yeah, and then I saw another report about someone who survived the Spanish flu in 1918 but succumbed to Covid-19 this week.

Yes, I was reading about that. One twin died as an infant of the Spanish flu, and the other twin died of covid-19 at 100. Amazing.

Yes, amazing. The twins were born on December 5, 1919.
Samuel Kahn died circa 1919-1920 of the 1918 H1N1 pandemic — he was only a few weeks old.
Philip Kahn died of the H1N1 COVID-19 pandemic — he was 100 when he died on April 17, 2020.

Unless you’re copying headlines from the online IT news site, “TheRegister.Co.UK” (byting the hand that feeds IT), who took it to court and won. In which case it is a well-known copyright violation, in some circumstances, in at least one court system.

I had to look twice. Phillip Kahn was only famous to his family and friends, but Philippe Kahn (not, as far as I know, dead) has a very similar name.

I had heard of him, but always in the context of some other country or folk star talking about how awesome he was, or what a big influence he was or something like that.

While, I’ve heard of a few of those that have died as noted in this thread, no one really famous, with wide recognition has succumbed to this disease yet, IMHO.

I would agree. John Prine was a big deal to me, but I never expected the average person to know him.

Roy Horn of Siegfried and Roy died from this, at 75.

He’s the one who was permanently disabled after being mauled by one of the lions a while back. :frowning:

A tiger, actually.

Oh, wow. I would agree that he is the current titleholder in this category. Still no A-list celebrities, though.

A Tiger? In Las Vegas?

Yes, he did magic with live tigers.

WHITE tigers.

A tiger couldn’t maul his ass to death, but 'rona. . …

Roy Horn was the first person on this list that I’ve easily recognized.

I’ve definitely heard of Siegfried and Roy, but couldn’t have told you Roy’s full name, or even if Roy was his first or last name.

I have never heard of any of those listed, at least to the point that I would recognize the name without having it explained. I never heard of John Prine, and I wouldn’t know who Roy Horn was without being told that he was a animal trainer/showman.

It’s a tendency I need to fight against - saying “why the heck are we doing all the things we are doing? Nobody I know has the disease, nobody I ever heard of has died, everyone who died seems to be very old, and yet here we are all sitting at home because of it.”

It’s very sad that these people died. But it doesn’t feel very real to me.

It’s too bad, and maybe I am not as sympathetic as I should be. But I opened the thread specifically to see if anyone I ever heard of had died, and there isn’t anyone.

RIP to all who died.

Regards,
Shodan

As of 2007 they still had their tigers at the MGM in Las Vegas . Probably not there now.

My uncle and aunt died. It feels real to me.
