Who is the most hated football player in the NFL?

“Wasted talent?”

Oh really.

Last year Moss lead the NFC in both receptions with 106 and yards with 1347.

He’s been to the Pro Bowl numerous times.

Blaming him for the Vikings undistinguished play last year is asinine.

Sounds like jealousy to me.

Don’t throw out utterly false and untrue crap, just to try and make your opinion stand up.

The play was not over.

Sapp was simply doing what he had been taught to do when the defense intercepted the ball, namely block the opposition.

And it’s not like that was the first blindside block in league history.

It was a legal block.

End of story.

Somewhere along the way this thread became “NFL players I have a grudge against” rather than the most hated player in the NFL. Fair enough…this however…

If you are going to contend that Emmitt wasn’t as good as Payton or Brown or Simpson or Sanders then I could see an argument but when you say that he’s not been any better than most RB’s out there, I have to call BS on that. Emmitt in his prime was an exceptional RB and what makes him one of the all time greats is that he was exceptional longer than almost anyone and he was exceptionally tough and durable too.

Yeah, there were some great backs who have played behind some ordinary offensive lines before and yeah, Emmitt had some pretty good ones in front of him during the 90’s but that isn’t Emmitt’s fault, he just played with what the team had and he most the most of it. Emmitt was one of the best players on that team and I believe that the team would not have been a championship one with “most other RBs out there”.

Don’t bother calling me a raving Dallas fan either, I support the 49ers, but I know greatness when I see it.

Warren Sapp. His hits borderline “dirty”

I believe many of us had due cause to find his celebration over an unconscious player a little disturbing as well.

Just because a play is deemed legal does not make the hit any less cheap.

If you are going to pick Ryan, and therefore include “retired” players, who here didn’t cheer when Bo Jackson ran over Brian Bosworth??

Of the players presently playing, I’d have to go with Romanowski.

Of anyone associated with the NFL, hands down it is Al Davis. If ever there was a man bent on ruining football for his own gain, he is it.

Randy Moss needs to back under the rock he crawled out from under!

I know how to compartmentalize. In all honesty, I’ve heard Jeremy in some interviews and he comes off as an uneducated jerk. But I can still admire him for being so pretty.

The entire offensive line of the Denver Broncos. They’re effective at cut blocks - blocking defenders below the knee within the tackle zone. Legal, but dangerous.

The problem is that the Broncos take it too far - they will roll up on a player after blocking him, creating a very dangerous (and illegal) situation that can easily result in a knee injury, and they’ll also block below the knee from behind. Broncos offensive linemen were repeatedly fined last season for this behavior, and caused several season-ending injuries to defenders.

And Romanowski is a pretty lousy human being.

Moss is a jerk on the field, and let’s not forget the, erm, traffic cop incident. That’s stupidity you just don’t see every day, even from pro athletes.

I think I’d honestly suggest Turley or Romanowski, but can I give a shout-out to Nate Newton on the ‘dumb’ front? The ex-Cowboys lineman was arrested TWICE within a couple of months for transporting hundreds of pounds of marijuana in his van. Wow.

I thought I implied as much by saying that I didn’t think he was any better than most of the other RB’s out there.

That’s your opinion and I disagree. He was never exceptional, he was ever adequate, helped tremendously by his OL.

I won’t dispute his toughness, RB’s take a tremendous amount of punishment, especially work horses like Emmitt that factor in 40+ plays a game, but I do dispute his durability. Once he started losing his dynastic OL he’s been on a steady decline. That is no doubt also due to his natural aging, but the continued and added physical punishment season in and season out without the great blockers he was used to also took its toll pretty quickly. He should have retired, or at the least taken a lesser role, years ago but he pridefully limped on just to get the record.

Playing solely for a title doesn’t make one exceptional, it makes one exceptionally prideful and worthy of disdain.

I hate Warren Sapp more than any other player in the NFL, and I thought his blindside block vs the Packers was perfectly fine. If he had gotten up and walked it off, everyone would have said “What a great block!”. Dude got injured. So sorry. Doesn’t change the fact that he wasn’t aware of his surroundings, and got hit legally (and it was not a cheap shot.)

Now, I hate Warren Sapp because he is a loudmouth, under performing jackass who runs his mouth all day long and then doesn’t bring any game to the important ones. People like TO talk smack, but he brings it when it’s gametime. Annoying, but I have no beef with him. Sapp could take some notes form TO. Sapp gets dominated all the time yet continues to run his mouth, Didn’t he say he was going after Strahan’s sack record recently? Dickhead hasn’t even gotten 8 sacks in either of his last two years. Way to go!

Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks and Rhonde Barber are the reason TBs D is so good, Sapp is just along for the ride. He also rolled up Tommy Maddox’s ankle (no question in my mind that it wasn’t an accident) when the Bucs got their ass handed to them in TB by the Steelers in week 16 last year. Pre game, Sapp went skipping and pirouetting down the Steelers sideline, interrupting a coach meeting and bumping into several players on his way. All he needed was a tutu to complete the “400lb piece of shit dressed up like a ballerina” routine he was going for. So after running his mouth all week for this game, then pulling this stunt, Alan Faneca completely dominates Sapp for the whole game. Way to bring your game like you said you would all week, asshole.

What a jerk.

And, while he’s been a stand up guy and I have no prolblems with him, I’m of the opinion that if you put Emmitt Smith on the Bengals through most of the 90s he doesn’t even touch 10,000 yards for his career.

He was a good back made great by his OL.

This is really a hijack and I’d be happy to take it somewhere else if you are but I don’t believe that Emmitt persisted to get the record. I believe that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys may have persisted with Emmitt until he got the record but Emmitt is doing what Emmitt does best, he is playing football.

I don’t think that Emmitt should have retired or taken a lesser role until the NFL team he is playing for tells him that he is no longer good enough to play or start. Records or no records, if he wants to play and compete (and most professional do), as long as there is a team that wants him, why shouldn’t he play? That isn’t worthy of disdain in my eyes, it’s worthy of respect.

I thought it was a cheap shot because there was no way in hell an offensive lineman was going to make any difference in the play. He was so far away from the interception that he would have made no difference. It would have taken him 10 minutes at full speed to make it to the play. Now if it were a wide receiver, quaterback, or running back trying to chase him down, fine. Those players have a chance of catching up with the play.

There will always be differing points of view on whether it was cheap or not. We’ll have to agree to disagree.

Now back to the discussion of the most hated player in football. Bring on more Romo slamming.

Wasn’t the lineman also looking away from the play? The fact that it was legal doesn’t mean it wasn’t a cheapshot in my book.

So what do we have…

  1. Bill Romanowski
  2. Warren Sapp
  3. Terrell Owens
  4. Randy Moss?

Is this roughly accurate?

Put Moss at the #2, then Sapp, then Owens and I think that’s it.

He may have been looking away but he was still running in the direction the play was headed. If he had given up, then stop running.
