“Mars 500” is an isolation study currently underway at the Institute of Biomedical Problems in Moscow. The participants have been sealed in a chamber in which they’ll take part in a simulated long-duration space mission to study the psychological and other effects of long-term isolation.
The participants have decorated their chamber with the portraits of several (no doubt famous) people. But I don’t recognize them all. Here are some photos from inside the chamber.
Specifically, look at Photo #2. There are five portraits visible, in which I identify:
Nicolas Sarkozy, President of France
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany
Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of Belarus
Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia
But who is the man in the suit and blue tie at the upper left?
This man is also visible in Photo #5. Here as well, Putin and Lukashenko have been moved to make way for an array of cosmonauts. But we also see two more people whom I can’t identify. At the top, from left, we have:
Blue Sash Man
(Charles de Gaulle)
Bowtie Man
