2011 is winding down so I’m thinking that we might as well have a mud-slinging match to decide who sits at the bottom of the Pit for the year. There are a lot of candidates. I’ll start with a few nominations:
Michelle Bachman. Represents everything that is wrong with American politics and the way we elect Presidents.
Jerry Sandusky. Sleaze that survives by dressing nice and ingratiating himself with powerful people.
Rick Perry. Stupidity does get rewarded.
Donald Trump. Ditto the Sandusky comment.
Sarah Palin. Ditto the Perry comment.
The U.S. Congress. How can so many people with so much power collectively be such a bunch of clueless imbeciles.
The Supreme Court. Ditto the Congress comment.
Osama bin Laden. Getting killed ain’t cool.
I’m sure there are many more. The floor is open for nominations and votes.
In order to comply with the protocol of the Pit I have to add that they are all a bunch of motherfucking, cocksucking, shit eating, child molesting pig fuckers and some other stuff, too.
I’ll go with Sandusky, with an honorable(?) mention to Bernie Fine. Pittable behavior is almost expected of politicians* and terrorists, but pedophilia cries out for a new level of Hell.
*And despite the quasi-adoration of the SC, I regard justices as borderline (at best) politicians.
Reasons why I am less motivated about pitting Sandusky than Trump:
There hasn’t been a trial and Sandusky has not yet been found guilty. I assume he will be. Nonetheless, it hasn’t happened, yet.
If Sandusky is guilty, and I assume he probably is, he will face justice, and may it be stern indeed. Being Pitted as well just seems tacky.
Given the number of people Trump’s failed “enterprises” have dislocated or ruined, he should be held accountable for hurting and swindling people, but probably never will be since it was all “legal,” and he has the lawyers to prove it.
Everyone thinks Sandusky is worse than a scrumbag, and rightly so. But a lot of people think Trump is a successful, admirable guy. Trump hasn’t (as far as is publicly known) committed any crime which on a per-count basis is as horrible by any means as sexually abusing children. But for me choosing a “Pit Person of the Year” isn’t about choosing the most appalling criminal as much as it is revealing feet of clay of a public figure whose failures in a just universe would be shunned and ridiculed rather than lauded.
I feel there is no need for me or the SDMB to call attention to Sanusky’s crimes, which outside of Penn State football fans are pretty much universally recognized in the U.S. With Trump, it’s a different story. People need to call that asshat out for being the failed financial parasite on the economy that he is.
Trump has the presumption and pretense to attempt to play kingmaker with GOP presidential candidates. No one in a democracy should have that power, least of all some fraud who has done nothing to earn it. Fortunately, some of the GOP field recognize this.
Sandusky will probably be utterly stripped of any privilege or authority outside of prison for the rest of his life, which is at least what he deserves. Trump will likely continue to wield undue influence and received undeserved praise for the rest of his life, unless enough people point out what a dangerous but vacuous clown he is.
I’d like to nominate Jon Corzine, for being such a sleazy, pompous ass, bringing down a 230-year-old business, “misplacing” $1.2 billion in customer money, seriously disrupting agricultural markets, and not wearing a seatbelt.
Good addition. Another one that should be on the nomination list is Dominique Strauss-Kahn. While he is becoming more of a long-shot he still merits recognition.
