Who is your favorite Daily Show correspondent?

I rarely watch the Daily Show, but I loves me some Lewis Black, so I came in here to skew the results. Hodgman, on the other hand, should be hosting a US version of QI.

Another vote for Mandvi, “Senior Foreign-Looking Correspondent”.

I figured Oliver would get the most votes, so I wanted to give Madrigal some love, based almost solely on the segment you linked to. I find Jessica Williams pretty horrible, though.

Is Larry Wimore the Senior Black Correspondent? If so, he is very funny and razor sharp in his observations. I can’t remember the last time I saw him on the show.

I would probably call it a tie between Mandvi and Oliver, but since Oliver is running away with this thing I’ll vote for Mandvi.

Yeah, he was on in the last two weeks. He appears slightly more often than Lewis Black. From his Wikipedia article, he’s an award-winning writer and producer, so it’s not like the Daily Show is his only gig. I get the impression he calls the show when he has a great idea, which would substantially raise his batting average.

It takes a while for the new folks to settle in and for the writers to learn their strengths. Olivia Munn’s first appearance was dreadful, as was John Oliver’s.

The worst of them are better than 90% of the performers on any given season of SNL.

My all-time favourite correspondent moment was when Samantha Bee went to the Al-Jazeera International studios and got the female co-anchor to identify herself as “Peppermint Gomez”.

I voted for Mandvi, but Oliver is right up there with him, maybe above him.

I don’t find Jessica Williams that funny, but I do find her attractive for some reason.

I am surprised at the lack of votes for Jason Jones. I think he is pretty good, about on par with his wife. I think that he does have the same problem that Rob Corddry used to have. I thought Corddry could be hilarious, but too often he would think “This would be hilarious if I pretended to give this guy a blow-job”. After 7 or 8 times, the joke begins to lose its charm. Jones has some of the same instincts.

Jones and Bee are funnier when they’re in the segment together, as was the case when they played a white-trash couple being visited by a census taker.

Al Madrigal is probably my current favorite in terms of his on-show performance, but I’m a big fan of John Oliver more generally. His podcast, The Bugle, is one the highlights of my week.

I wanted to vote “Anyone but Samantha Bee” - she annoys me to no end every time I see her. Instead I went with Aasif, but it was tough because I really like most of them.

Yeah, I decided Lewis Black didn’t count, so I didn’t vote for him. I must say I am saddened by this lack of love for Jason Jones. When I saw the thread title, there wasn’t a second of hesitation before my brain shouted out “Jason Jones.” His coverage of the RNC? Classic!

Kristen Schaal left the show.

flip that and you have my two favs

Yeah that was disappointing. Munn can be very funny, and I was looking forward to it when I heard she joined. But all the three times or show she was on were excruciatingly awkward and unfunny.

Another vote for Wilmore, who, coincidentally, can also deliver the deadpan humor brilliantly.
