Who killed Jesus?

BOY! You sure take the long road to answer a question that Jesus Himself answered when He walked among us. Have you not read, Luke 18:32,33? "For He will be delivered to the GENTILES…vs 33, THEY will scourge HIM and KILL HIM!
From His lips to your ears.

Presumably, from this column:

Who killed Jesus?

I cannot tell a lie. We killed him because he didn’t want to become a doctor.

Great article. Can’t believe I had never read it before.
So… It was Colonel Mustard in the Conservatory with a lead pipe… right?

His Dad?

Ummm. Yeah, but other books of the New Testament make other claims. From the Staff Report:

Luke’s account (as mentioned in the Staff Report, although not by name) was written to appeal to Jews, to accept Jesus as their Messiah. He therefore blames the Romans (“the gentiles.”) John’s account was written to appeal to Romans (and others) who had no knowledge of Jewish politics, and so he blames “the Jews.” The Staff Report attempts to look past the preachiness and political perspectives of the different Gospel writers and put together a coherent story (based on what we know of Roman law at the time, as well.)

So his father sent him to be killed and his mother never had sex with anyone.

Isn’t that a reverse Oedipus Complex?

Oh, please! This entire thread is pointless. No one doubts that the Romans performed the act. The issue is how much of the initiative came from:
[ul]
[li]the (largely collaborationist) Temple power structure,[/li][li]Pontius Pilate, and[/li][li]the (largely Jewish) holiday-morning mob (which some have suggested may have been arranged for and primed ahead of time).[/li][/ul]
(Historically, there has also been a belief among some Christians that the Jewish people bear a collective guilt for actions by some of their ancestors, but there have always been Christians who denied it, and nowadays it is a belief held only by troglodytes; I believe it is officially a heresy in RCism, at least since the 1960s.)

I don’t think heresy would be the term, since as far as I’m aware Churches which hold that view remain in communion with the Vatican. It had its basis in this document as far as I’m aware.

The people that carry the belief that the iniquities of the father are carried over several generations to its logical conclusion are excommunicated though.

Blather. Jew=Christ Killer has been an epithet throughout the history of Christianity and the Vatican has done nothing whatsoever to combat it in any serious way.

This is apologizing for the indefensible. And exactly why the term apologetics has almost totally lost its formal meaning and been replaced by the common meaning.

I just want be on record and say that I didn’t do it, and if I was there, I would have stopped it.

Now, please don’t hurt me.

The funny thing is that if you did, according to the meagre theology I’ve come across (mostly third hand), God would not be able to complete the necessary blood sacrifice. That means people would still bear the sin and wouldn’t be entitled to eternal life as far as I’m aware (not sure if everyone would go to Sheol or Hades or oblivion)… So there’s a sort of paradox. Maybe there’s an argument that the individual that would kill Jesus should damn themselves on Utilitarian grounds: eternal hellfire for themselves, salvation for everyone else that follows Christ afterwards.

The Sarah Silverman approach is much more cathartic.

from here If you want to read the whole thing you need to click on “show quote.” Its hidden because of the language and extremely offensive nature.

I don’t care. Good. I hope the Jews did kill Christ. I’d do it again, I’d fucking do it again in a second.

Apart from, y’know, officially declaring that it was wrong and evil.

And the U.S. passed a law or two against segregation, which totally wiped it out in the country and erased all past history as well, thereby officially absolving it of any complicity.

So you’re maintaining that the US “has done nothing whatsoever to combat it in any serious way?”

Quite the reverse. I’m saying that a declaration against evil alone is utterly worthless without actively and persistently and pervasively fighting that evil. If ever in my lifetime I see the Vatican doing that I will applaud. But it has never happened and I never expect it to.

In the final analysis there is no evidence that the biblical character called “Jesus Christ” ever existed. As Nicholas Carter concludes in The Christ Myth: “No sculptures, no drawings, no markings in stone, nothing written in his own hand; and no letters, no commentaries, indeed no authentic documents written by his Jewish and Gentile contemporaries, Justice of Tiberius, Philo, Josephus, Seneca, Petronius Arbiter, Pliny the Elder, et al., to lend credence to his historicity.” (Source: Pliny, Tacitus and Suetonius: No Proof of Jesus)

I’m not sure enough words were all caps in the OP. I think I may have missed the point.

Read Pontius Pilate’s letters to Tiberius Caesar. Read Mrs. Pilate’s letters to Pontius Pilate. I know who killed Jesus. It is not up to me to convince anyone who can only react emotionally and loudly to this answer. Politics and Monarchies are still silencing and murdering our best thinkers in order that ignorance, callousness and paranoia of the masses may continue to rule where no rule is called for.
